Domestic Supervisor
We are seeking Domestic Supervisor to work at Warrington Hospital, who will maintain high standards of cleanliness in-line with Trust cleaning protocols. You will communicate with colleagues in connection with your own job role and ensure a close working relationship with Ward/Departmental Housekeepers.
You will carry out training sessions for cleaning tasks, operating machinery, e.g., buffing machine, vacuum cleaner, moving of buckets of water and cleaning equipment to meet the needs of the area. You will be responsible for a team of Domestics Assistants; you will ensure stock levels are maintained and used appropriately. Daily walk arounds checking staff in.
Joining our large adaptable and professional Team, you will need to have a positive attitude and excellent organisational skills. You will attend relevant training courses, including Trust mandatory training for your own personal development and to maintain and improve standards within the department.
Main duties of the job
Carry out the supervision of domestic and portering staff on a day to day basis and undertake cleaning tasks and other associated tasks, to meet the needs of the area, in line with the Trust Cleaning Protocols. Ensure standards of cleanliness are maintained at all times and assist the Support Services Manager in the maintenance of National and PLACE cleaning standards.

Communication
- Liaise on a daily basis with ward staff, ward managers and housekeepers.
- To liaise with Manager daily and act upon any specific tasks required.
- To work with any new starters, demonstrating tasks and methods of work.
- Report any equipment faults or health and safety issues to Estates or via the Line Manager as and when they arise.
- To be the first point of contact with any service issues or cleanliness complaints as and when they arise, referring to the Manager when necessary.
- To monitor cleanliness standards by carrying out quality assurance checks on a regular basis ensuring high standards at all times. This may lead to dealing with staff performance issues.
- Organize own day-to-day work tasks in relation to cleaning and as determined by Line Manager and ensure others are carrying out required tasks.
- Assist in the recruitment of Domestic and Portering staff.
- To monitor ward kitchen hygiene standards on a daily basis, liaising with Housekeepers to ensure any problems or poor hygiene standards are addressed.
Report any equipment faults or health and safety issues to Estates or via the Line Manger or Supervisor as and when they arise.
Dependent on the area of work staff will be required to come into contact with patients and visitors and must exhibit good customer care skills and where necessary signpost to the appropriate member of staff.
Organizational:
Organize own day-to-day work tasks in relation to cleaning and as determined by the Line Manager or Supervisor.
To ensure the cleanliness of the area you are assigned to under the direction of the Supervisor.
Work to NHS Standards of Cleanliness and the Trust Cleaning Manual including cleaning frequencies.
Responsible for observing and monitoring the condition of the environment you clean and reporting any defects to the Housekeeper or Supervisor.
Responsible for maintaining clear and accurate records providing evidence that cleaning has taken place.
Respond to any actions that arise from any cleaning audits.
To adhere to the outlet flushing regime set out by the Trust and complete any check sheets.
Ensure when required that fridge check sheets are completed, and fridge temperatures recorded.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
- Participate in Trust mandatory training and any departmental specific training
- Knowledge of specific cleaning procedures and standards, including cleaning materials, cleaning frequencies, cleaning tasks, cleaning equipment, COSHH and Health and Safety (as indicated within Trusts Cleaning Protocols and Training / Induction Sessions)
- Plan and where required, carry out staff training and ensure that the departmental training database is kept up to date.
- To ensure that the operating of associated equipment (e.g. buffing machine, vacuum cleaner etc) and the use of cleaning materials and other associated tasks which may be a hazard to oneself or others are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with Trust Cleaning Training Protocols, Health and Safety, Control of Infection and COSHH Risk Assessments.
- Ensure that Trust Policies and procedures are followed by domestic and portering staff and contribute to the development of departmental SOPs and policies.
Supervision
- To ensure all staff are using equipment according to their training and ensure domestics are carrying out their duties in line with the Trust Cleaning Manual and Health and Safety procedures.
- Responsible for the deployment, supervision, and coordination of staff on a daily basis. This may be sometimes complex as there are more than 200 staff.
- To ensure Waste Operatives are carrying out their role as instructed and that tugs are used in a safe manner and accordance with the Tug training.
- To complete staff rotas and ensure that staff duties are covered for annual leave and sickness by checking weekly rotas daily and arranging cover where necessary.
- Organize own day-to-day work tasks in relation to cleaning and as determined by Line Manager and ensure others are carrying out required tasks.
- Undertake appraisals/stress risk assessments and performance management of staff and be responsible for dealing with any informal staff disputes or problems.
- Authorize/record annual leave. Ensuring that quarterly checks/discussions are made to prevent a build-up of annual leave at the end of the financial year.
Emotional Effort
- Exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances including visitors when working within the hospital environment.
- Regularly support staff through personal issues and signpost when necessary.
Physical Effort
- Use of operating machinery, e.g., buffing machine, vacuum cleaner, moving of buckets of water and cleaning equipment.
- On a frequent basis undertake the safe moving and handling of furniture, linen bags and refuse sacks in adherence with Health & Safety and hospital procedures.
- Required to assist with cleaning and making of beds in residential accommodation
Financial and Physical Resources
- Responsible for the correct use and storage of equipment and cleaning materials.
- Responsible for the standards of cleanliness of cleaning equipment and cleaning storage area for self and other staff.
- Check staff signing in sheets against the rota.
- Complete the staff ESVL as and when required in accordance with the Trust Policy.
- Order stock as and when required.

- Ensure that Trust policies and procedures and any departmental specific procedures are adhered to by members of staff.
- Post holders should be mindful of the high hygiene standards that are expected and present themselves appropriately, in accordance with Trust Procedure.
