Job summary

The Acute Medical Therapies Team at Warrington and Halton Hospitals is delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a Band 6 or 7 Occupational Therapist with excellent functional treatment, communication and leadership skills and a desire to work with patients in an acute care setting to join our service. The team are pioneering a Highly Specialized Deconditioning Occupational Therapist post, whos focus will be on the prevention of deconditioning in the inpatient areas.

The successful candidate will be a confident leader with experience working within a fast paced and dynamic clinical environment. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the team in the prevention of deconditioning at a clinical level. This will involve carrying a caseload of complex patients and to provide clinical guidance, support and supervision to the wider integrated team of Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants who provide a therapy service to inpatient wards across both Warrington and Halton Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

The post duties will include leadership and guidance of deconditioning prevention across the teams inpatient areas. This will include day to day management of clinical caseloads and training / supervision to the wider team. The clinical focus will be upon the prevention of deconditioning in the inpatient bed base using functional practice, cognitive stimulation and physical exercise. The post also includes deputising for the Team Manager, supervision of junior staff, quality improvement and service development.

We have a diverse team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants to support in the delivery of therapy to inpatients across the acute medical bed base. This includes working in areas such as Older Persons Care, Cardiology, Medicine, and Dementia Care. The post will involve providing therapy assessments and interventions for a diverse patient group. Experience in Frailty, Inpatient Care and Discharge Planning is essential for the post.

The working hours for this post will be 37.5 hours - over 5 working days which will include a 7-day working contract.

Based across the Trust sites for therapy services including Warrington Hospital, Lovely Lane, Warrington WA5 1QG and Halton Hospital, Hospital Way, Runcorn WA7 2DA

About us

The Acute Medical Therapies Team deliver care to a wide variety of disciplines across the Warrington and Halton Hospitals bed base. These disciplines include Frailty / General Medicine / Cardiology / Dementia Care / Sub Acute Care. The team is an integrated mix of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Assistant Practitioners and Therapy Assistants. The team works in a dynamic fashion to ensure rapid assessment, treatment to prevent hospital associated deconditioning and successful discharge using a Discharge to Assess pathway.
