An exciting opportunity has arisen at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS FT to work as part of the vibrant and innovative WHH Quality Academy (QA) as Head of Continuous Quality Improvement.

The Quality Academy, based at the Warrington Hospital, is a centre of inquiry, delivery, and partnership. It includes a core team of Quality Improvement, Clinical Audit, Research, Development and Innovation, and Knowledge & Evidence Services.

This post will also be offered on a secondment basis. Please ensure you have full agreement from your current line manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

The Head of CQI is a senior leadership role within QA who works closely with Associate Director of Quality and Director of Governance alongside other leaders within the Quality Academy workstreams.

The postholder will have expertise in CQI tools and approach with a strategic, adaptable approach to the needs of the service, which will require them to work collaboratively with other senior leaders across the Trust in various quality and safety improvement programmes.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with a talent for improvement to take WHH to a new level of achievement. The post holder will have a key role in delivery of the organisations quality and improvement priorities as described in our Quality Strategy.

WHHs Quality Academy works to improve quality for people in hospital through a programme of quality improvements, research, innovations, data, training and collaboration. The Academy is based at the Warrington Hospital and includes a small core team of improvement staff, alongside Clinical Audit, Effectiveness, Research & Development, and Knowledge & Library Services.

The Head of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) will work with partners across the Quality Academy and wider Trust to design, deliver and evaluate quality improvement programmes, incorporating an agreed improvement plan and the associated measurement and monitoring strategy to track progress and demonstrate continuous improvements in healthcare service delivery.

The post-holder will be required to have a good grounding in improvement theory (e.g. Demings System of Profound Knowledge), an in-depth working knowledge of Quality Improvement methodologies (e.g. Model for Improvement; Lean) and experience of working with clinical and non-clinical teams to drive improvement. They will be an ambassador for Quality Improvement across the Trust and provide expertise, advice, education and support to ensure that improvements are delivered effectively and for the benefits of patients and staff. They will also support the vision to grow a culture of continuous improvement at the Trust through the delivery of training on Quality Improvement methods/tools, providing improvement expertise to the Clinical Business Units, and developing strong links across all areas of the Quality Academy.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience working at a senior level
  • Qualification in quality improvement, change management, leadership, transformation and/or service re-design.

Desirable

  • Coaching qualification

  • Experience working at a senior level in a relevant professional environment
  • Experience of driving improvements and managing large scale change in a complex organisation (e.g. health and/or social care)
  • Experience of facilitating change using quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean; Model for Improvement) and tools (e.g. PDSA Cycles; process mapping etc)
  • Experience of delivering training and education
  • Proficient in understanding, interpreting and challenging data using tools such as Statistical Process Control
  • Experience of comparing data and using analytical skills to present data in a meaningful way to diverse stakeholder groups
