Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner

Job summary

Due to retirement an exciting opportunity has come up for a Qualified band 4 Assistant Practitioner or Trainee Assistant Practitioners who has commenced their training and due to qualify.

We want this Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to be part of the Hand Therapy Team based at Halton. We are looking for a well organised individual with a passion for promoting recovery and independence.

We are on an exciting journey to transform the Hand Therapy service within the Trust and have brought the teams on each site into a unified integrated team. We are excited to welcome you to join our friendly team where you will have the opportunity to provide a service in the following areas:

  • Assessment of hand conditions
  • Provision of therapy and splints
  • Run Hand Therapy groups
  • Administration tasks such as ordering stock
  • Some housekeeping duties

You will work as part of a small multidisciplinary team that includes: Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and Administrators.

The Service operates a Monday to Friday service, currently covering the hours of 8.30 - 4.30, not including bank holidays and weekends. You will be expected to work your hours across three of those days.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner, you will be based on the Halton site to provide Occupational Therapy interventions in an outpatient setting. You will receive competency-based training in Occupational Therapy. Following this you will continue to receive support from our Therapy teams to enable you to deliver high quality therapy interventions to the best of your ability.

The successful applicant will have previous experience working in a healthcare environment and must be a good team worker, flexible, empathetic, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and other members of the multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Minimum of Level 5 Foundation Degree in relevant area

Desirable

  • Additional Learning around pelvic floor / perinatal period
  • additional learning in exercise rehabilitation prescription

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a therapy setting with an in depth knowledge of therapeutic principals

Desirable

  • Experience of working in NHS environment.
  • Experience working with the perinatal population and/or with those who have symptoms of pelvic floor dyysfunction
  • Experience working with those with barriers to communication
  • Experience of delivering groups (educational and/or exercise)

Skills, knowledge and competencies

Essential

  • An understanding of therapy
  • understanding of exercise rehabilitation principles and presciption.

  • Competent with using IT systems and completing patient records
  • Able to motivate patients
