Job summary

To become part of our wonderful, friendly, caring CSTM team and to assist the nursing staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.

We welcome friendly, caring, dedicated professionals who would like to contribute to our gold standard care delivery here on CSTM. We have recently been awarded 'gold standard' from our ward accreditation, which we are all very proud of.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the individual needs of patients and their families.

Working under the direction of the registered health care professional, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team planning and organising own workload in conjunction with other staff members.

You will support service development to meet the evolving needs of the NHS ensuring efficient and effective use of all resources.Provide effective high quality patient/customer care. Monitor and maintain Trust Quality standards.

Main duties of the job

Undertake operational duties which include:? Escort duties? Document information relating to personal care under the direction of the registered healthcare professional? To safely transport patients? Provide support to patients and relatives? Provide support when required to other wards/departments

-To work alongside the therapists to ensure patients follow their precautions post specialised surgery.

About us

The Captain Sir Tom Moore main ward is situated on the first floor in The Captain Sir Tom Moore Building - it is our home for orthopaedic surgery and treatment services on the Halton General Hospital campus. We provide surgery ranging from hand and foot operations through to hip replacement operations at the centre - as well as sports injuries (sports medicine) and other bone and joint care. The centre is located just across from the main Nightingale Building. The centre was purpose built for orthopaedic surgery and was originally opened in 2006 as a home for a private health provider who was contracted to the NHS until 2011. We were delighted to be able to re-open the centre for local patients in 2013 and move our orthopaedic services to their new home. It is a popular choice for surgery with excellent patient feedback.

The majority of our emergency care and complex surgical care is based atWarrington HospitalwhilstThe Nightingale Building in Runcornis a centre of excellence for routine surgery. TheCaptain Sir Tom Moore Buildingis home to our orthopaedic surgery services.

A CQC-rated 'good' organisation with 'outstanding' features, we are working towards university hospital status, having achieved teaching hospital status in 2019.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities1. Working under the direction of a registered healthcare professional, participate in the personal care of patients and prioritising workload appropriately and developing competencies that safeguardpractice and effectiveness in role.2. The Healthcare Support Worker will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care and associated duties under the direction and supervision of the registered professional and working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will be required-if appropriately trained, to perform patient physical observations such as Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Temperature, Respiration Rate, ECGs etc.

You will also be required to remove cannulas and catheters.

3. Participate in meetings and handover to discuss patients progress and care To safely transport patients Provide support to patients and relatives Provide support when required to the ward/department4. Communications and Key Working Relationships1. Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring all entries are legible, accurate and completed within defined timescales e.g. fluid balance (intake and output), skin bundles, nutrition, height and weight.2. Effective verbal communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe high quality care is provided to all patients3. Provide general non-clinical advice, information and guidance to patients, relatives and visitors4. Assist with dietary needs of the patients as required5. Maintain effective working relationships with ward colleagues particularly those highlighted within the organisational chart above.6. Display a pleasant and supportive manner when addressing patients/relatives/carers and colleaguesalike7. Maintain basic administration tasks, answering telephone when required and the taking of messages and passing on of relevant information8. Act as a role model and participate in the support during training of other healthcare assistants, demonstrating own dutiesResponsibility for Finance1. Participate in ensuring effective use of all financial resources in providing and delivering an effectiveservice2. Responsible for maintaining stock control3. Liaise with Estates Department in respect of all maintenance issues4. Complete daily checking of equipment and returning of equipment to loan store.Responsibility for Research and Development1. Participates in audits, surveys, research and development activitiesPhysical skills requirement1. Use frequent moderate effort when undertaking carrying out the manual handling of individuals and equipment in line with organisational guidelines2.
