LAS ST3+ in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Job summary

This post is offered at ST3+ level and will start in August 2025. The successful candidates will be working with the Consultant Upper Limb Orthopaedic Surgeons and will include elective, operating and clinic work. This post is from August 2025 to the 4th Feb 2026.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will function at registrar level

The appointee will be required to assist in the supervision, teaching, training, and monitoring of more junior doctors and the teaching and training of medical students.

The appointee will have delegated responsibility for all the patients under the care of their consultant / team. He/she will refer to the Consultant when problems arise which are beyond his/her authority and/or experience.

The assigned Educational Supervisor is in administrative charge of junior medical staff. All leave requests should be discussed with the rota coordinator and confirmed with the Service Manager. No leave is allowed during the first or last two weeks of the appointment and no leave can be taken during the. There are other local polices governed by government targets which will affect leave requests.

Prospective cover may be required for eventualities during the term of service. This may include on-call, theatre, ward and clinic cover.

Location of Duties: This post will be working cross site between Warrington hospital and the Captain Sir Tom Moore building at Halton.

  • oFull GMC Registration oPrimary Medical Degree

Desirable

  • oMRCS

Knowledge and Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience
  • ATLS certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 months NHS experience
  • Competence on pre- and post-operative management of common orthopaedic emergency and elective conditions

Desirable

  • Completed time in Registrar/equivalent posts in Orthopaedics in the UK
  • 12 months surgery experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Basic Fracture Management course (AO or equivalent)

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
