Job summary
Are you a Registered Nurse with a passion for mental health care?
We are looking for compassionate and motivated Band 5 Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurses to join our Adult Inpatient teams in Exeter.
You'll be welcomed into a supportive, multidisciplinary team with access to excellent training, development and career progression. You will need excellent communication skills and we are always on the look-out for nurses who are keen to share new ideas and seek-out areas of improvement.
We have exciting opportunities across three settings:
The Junipers
A modern, 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) set in the tranquil grounds of Wonford House. We provide specialist, short-term care for men and women with acute and complex mental health needs.
Coombehaven Ward
Based at The Cedars, Coombehaven is a 16-bed mixed acute unit set within the beautiful grounds of Wonford House in Exeter and provides care for men and women with severe mental health needs.
Delderfield Ward
Based at The Cedars, Delderfield provides compassionate assessment, care and treatment for adults experiencing significant mental health difficulties, with a strong focus on safety, dignity and recovery.
Main duties of the job
As a Staff Nurse working across our Exeter Adult Mental Health Inpatient Wards you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults experiencing acute or complex mental health needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing safe, compassionate, and recovery-focused nursing care as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Supporting the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual care plans.
- Administering medication and monitoring therapeutic responses in line with clinical protocols.
- Acting as a named nurse for allocated service users and maintaining accurate clinical records.
- Promoting a positive and therapeutic environment that supports recovery and rehabilitation.
- Responding effectively to challenging behaviours using de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
- Building strong relationships with service users, families, carers, and community services to support safe discharge planning.
- Contributing to ward activities, clinical discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
- To manage the unit in the absence of Ward Manager / Team Leader.
- To participate in the internal rotation system including weekend working.
You'll be supported with supervision, reflective practice, and access to ongoing professional development.
