Job summary
The Community Support Worker plays a key role within the Community Mental Health Team, providing practical, recovery focused support to adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. Working under the supervision of qualified clinicians, the postholder helps service users develop daily living skills, maintain independence, and engage with community resources. The role supports the delivery of safe, person centred care in line with recovery principles and the values of the service.
Main duties of the job
Provide practical, goal focused support to service users
in their homes and community settings.
Assist individuals with developing and maintaining daily
living skills such as budgeting, selfcare, meal planning, and accessing
community activities.
Support service users to attend appointments, groups, and
social or vocational opportunities.
Promote independence, confidence, and self management
in line with personalised care plans.
Observe and report changes in mental state, risk, or social
circumstances to the clinical team promptly.
Provide practical support within the physical health clinics.

- Basic Education
- To compete the care certificate within the first 6 months of employment unless already obtained or evidence of equivalent agreed and signed off by the appointing manager at interview. If not, this will be a trainee position until successful completion.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3, QCF Level 3 in health & Social Care or equivalent qualification.
- Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.
Experience
Essential
- Previous employment / experience of working with people in a caring situation or previous experience working in a different role within mental health services.
Desirable
- Previous care experience with people who have mental health difficulties.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Awareness of safeguarding principles
- Awareness of physical health monitoring
- Good communications and listening skills
- Demonstrate an ability to make and sustain professional therapeutic relationships.
- Good written communication.
- Able to work in a team effectively
- IT skills
