Job summary

As an Environmental Porter with Devon Partnership NHS Trust, you will play a vital role in helping us provide safe, clean, and welcoming environments for the people who use our services. Our facilities are central to the quality of care we deliver, and this role ensures that our clinical and nonclinical areas remain hygienic, well maintained, and ready to support excellent patient experience. You will work as part of a dedicated Facilities team, supporting the Trust by carrying out a wide range of cleaning, waste management, and environmental support tasks across our sites. From maintaining high standards of cleanliness to assisting with the movement of equipment, supplies, and materials, your contribution will directly help create therapeutic settings where recovery and wellbeing can flourish. This is a hands-on, active role that requires reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining safe working practices. You will interact with colleagues, service users, and visitors in a professional and respectful manner, representing the Trusts values in your everyday work. Main duties of the job

  • Unloading, loading and storage of equipment and deliveries from internal and external sources.
  • Delivery of equipment and materials in support of departmental cleaning schedules, National Cleaning Standards, including specialist cleaning as required by Infection Control.
  • Safe operation of and daily checks of all vehicles employed during the course of your duties.
  • Ensuring correct waste segregation and disposal procedures in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Collection and transportation of waste from end user areas to the centralised waste storage compound.
  • Removal of soiled linen and distribution of clean linen to/from wards and departments.
  • Completion of documentation as required by department, Trust, legislation, and standing instructions.
  • To observe hygiene, hospital and client policies and procedures at all times, reporting any faults, defects or operational issues to the Line Manager.
  • General portering tasks as requested, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety procedures.
  • Other duties in accordance with the needs of the service, specifically cleaning duties during periods of absence of other related staff.
  • Ad hoc deliveries/collections to/from other Trust locations.
