Job summary

We are seeking an innovative, experienced, highly motivated & enthusiastic Support time and recovery worker to join the Community Forensic team (CFT)

Recovery is at the heart of everything we do - it is about people building a meaningful life and represents a shift away from focusing on illness and symptoms towards a focus on personal health, strengths and wellness. Support Time and Recovery workers are key to helping and supporting a person on that journey.

The role is dynamic and challenging.The post holder will be a core member of a multi-disciplinary CFT team and be responsible for taking an active role in carrying out the functions in the team; including providing support to service users who are inpatient and those who have transitioned to the community, working closely with care co-ordinators across the team and acting as deputy when required.

CFT support people who, as a consequence of their mental health needs, have had contact with the criminal justice system with the overarching aim to deliver a model of integrated care and support across all elements of a service users pathway. With a specific focus on prevention through admission avoidance and early intervention through collaboration with other services.For those in inpatient care there is an aim to support flow through the secure directorate and reduce re admission following discharge into the community.

Main duties of the job

You will often work autonomously and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required.

You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. You may be required to support the induction of new staff members and students

Essential

  • An understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Health Capacity Act requirements
  • Awareness of legal restraints impacting on the rehabilitation of service users within forensic care
  • Good working knowledge of health legislation and current practice including CPA and risk assessment and management
  • Ability to use a range of communication skills to communicate effectively with clients and carers who may be distressed or have limited communication skills
  • Demonstrate skills in motivating clients and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process
  • Experience in managing a complex caseload
  • Well developed prioritisation skills

  • Ability to be mobile across a geographical area
  • To be able to respond promptly to physical and mental health emergencies, to think quickly and to deal with situations in a calm and sensible manner

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mental health and/or social care practice acquired through NVQ Level 3, PLUS training to diploma level or equivalent, equivalent knowledge obtained through short courses OR relevant work based experience
  • Must already hold or be willing to obtain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment
  • Additional formal and experiential training in working with children & adults who have complex needs

  • Significant experience working with people with complex needs and vulnerabilities
  • Ability to assess and manage risk
  • Significant experience working in community settings in multi-disciplinary teams
