This 1.0 wte 8a post (flexible working considered) provides embedded psychological care within the Macleod Diabetes and Endocrinology Service (MDEC), Royal Devon University Hospital in Exeter. You will work with diabetes, endocrinology and medical obesity patients. There will be potential to work with MDTs, provide training, support and supervision to staff as well as maintaining a clinical caseload. Both elements of the post will have a service development role to continue developing psychological care pathways with the local Primary Care Talking Therapies team.

This role requires face to face presence in the teams for the majority of the time. Opportunities also exist with local clinical training courses for research and clinical placements within the service.

You will experience the benefits of being part of an innovative, fast paced physical health MDT whilst also being supported by the Clinical Health and Neuropsychology Service within DPT. The team at MDEC have embraced psychology over the past few years and hugely value the different perspectives psychologists bring into the service.

Main duties of the job

The team psychologist has access to protected administrative desk space alongside a separate allocated therapy room in the building. The role encompasses both clinical care (direct patient contact) alongside systemic approaches including a recent focus on psychological informed care and environments.

Attendance at medical obesity MDT meetings every other week on a Wednesday is essential as is diabetes MDT on a Thursday.

There is flexibility around the types of therapeutic approaches offered in the service and further training that could support this. At the moment a range is offered including 3rd wave CBT, trauma focused approaches and longer term attachment informed interventions.

  • Taking a leadership role in the EMOS and endocrinology services for the Clinical Health & Neuropsychology Services.

  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the Clinical Health & Neuropsychology Services.
