Clinical Psychologist - Paediatric Psychology

The closing date is 31 August 2025

Job summary

We are delighted to be recruiting a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join the Paediatric Psychology team in North Devon. This is a 0.7 WTE permanent role within Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD), working with children and young people experiencing the psychological impact of physical health conditions.

You will be part of a well-established team providing high-quality, formulation-driven psychological care in both inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. The service supports adjustment to diagnosis and treatment, promotes emotional wellbeing, and contributes to improved treatment adherence and engagement.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a large, supportive network of Clinical Psychologists across CFHD. You will benefit from regular clinical supervision, a dedicated job plan, and opportunities for CPD, research, and service development.

We welcome applications from experienced and newly qualified Clinical Psychologists. The post offers a mix of direct clinical work, consultation to the wider system, and participation in service improvement projects.

There is a strong and friendly psychology community within CFHD, with shared CPD, peer support, and excellent links to local Doctoral training programmes.

If you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people in paediatric settings, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Psychologist in the Paediatric Psychology team, you will:

  • Deliver psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for children and young people with physical health conditions.

  • Contribute to paediatric multi-disciplinary team meetings, inpatient ward rounds, and outpatient clinic discussions.

  • Provide consultation and psychological thinking to other professionals involved in the care of children and young people, including education and social care partners.

  • Support children and families to manage distress, improve quality of life, and build resilience in the face of medical challenges.

  • Supervise trainee clinical psychologists and assistant psychologists as appropriate.

  • Contribute to audit, service evaluation, and development initiatives in line with national guidance and CFHD priorities.

  • Maintain professional standards of record keeping and clinical governance, and uphold ethical practice.

  • Engage in individual and peer supervision, CPD, and reflective practice.

Youll be working alongside paediatricians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other key partners, making a real difference to the lives of children and families across the region.
