Job summary

We are delighted to be recruiting a Band 8a Operations Manager to join the leadership team of the Neurodiversity Pathway in Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD).

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced leader to support our evolving Neurodiversity Pathway at a time of substantial growth and transformation. The postholder will work in partnership with our existing Band 8a Operations Manager, jointly holding operational responsibility for the pathway, with clear leadership over distinct areas to ensure coherence, autonomy, and impact.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong operational background, a passion for neurodiversity-informed care, and the ability to drive forward systemwide service development and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide operational leadership to teams within the Neurodiversity Pathway, with specific areas of focus aligned to service needs and postholder strengths.

  • Work alongside pathway clinical leads to provide shared leadership for a multi-disciplinary, county-wide pathway.

  • Use data to monitor service delivery, identify performance improvements, and embed quality assurance processes.

  • Manage staffing structures, workforce development, recruitment, and retention within a growing service.

  • Drive forward service development, including implementing changes to support a Devon-wide integrated neurodiversity assessment pathway.

  • Lead and support staff through change, creating a culture of inclusion, compassion, and shared responsibility.

  • Maintain and build strong relationships with education, health, and social care partners to support joined-up care and early help initiatives.

Children and Family Health Devon is a system-wide service that delivers an integrated, coordinated support model which wraps around the child, young person and family. It has been specifically designed to respond to all elements of the commissioners strategy and specification along with the vision and strategic direction of the STP. It builds on our strong relationships across education, health, social care and voluntary sector services in Devon, and, most importantly, it has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Essential

  • Professional clinical knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, management qualification or equivalent and experience.
  • A professional qualification relevant to childrens healthcare (such as Social Work, Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Psychological Therapy Qualification, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy.)
  • Professional registration/accreditation with a recognised body.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers, clinicians, managers and leaders including using goal-based care and routine outcome measures in practice.
  • Experience of Inter-agency working at a management level with successful track record of influencing and maintaining good working relationships
  • Experience of delivering specialist clinical services for children with complex health conditions
  • Experience of operational leadership
  • Experience of supervising and managing others, leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams and developing positive supervisory relationships with a range of Health professionals
  • Experience of integrating principles of human rights diversity and inclusion in clinical and leadership practice
  • Experience of managing recruitment processes including staff appraisals, performance and sickness management, investigations, recruitment processes
  • Experience of safeguarding children and ensuring the safety of young people in partnership with other agencies as appropriate.
  • Experience of using data to improve services
  • Experience of initiating, organising and planning inter-agency meetings including those related to complex clinical matters
  • Experience of managing complaints, incidents, risks and financial payments.
