Clinical Associate Psychologist - Eating Disorder Service

Job summary

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is pleased to advertise a Band 6 Clinical Associate Psychologist, based in Exeter in our Eating Disorder Pathway. This is an opportunity to support children and young people experiencing eating difficulties, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, ARFID, and related challenges.

You will work as part of a psychologically informed multi-disciplinary team, delivering structured, evidence-based interventions, supporting assessments, and helping promote recovery through trauma-informed, person-centred care, as well as getting involved in service projects and audit.

You will be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist and receive regular CPD opportunities, working in a service committed to inclusive, reflective and high-quality clinical care.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions under supervision
  • Contribute to assessment, formulation, and care planning
  • Support group and individual work with young people and families
  • Liaise with schools, professionals and partner agencies
  • Take part in service evaluation and clinical audit

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Post-Graduate level knowledge of applied psychological theory and research within the relevant area of practice (Child and Adolescent Mental Health)
  • Awareness of the range of presentations within the relevant area of practice and of the common multi-disciplinary services offered
  • Awareness and understanding of professional level/requirements of role.
  • Potential car use for clinical travel; required to travel to placements across large geographical area and visit a range of settings, including home visits

Qualifications

Essential

  • A professional qualification as a Clinical Associate Psychologist (Children and Young People) demonstrated through a masters degree in Applied Psychology accredited by the BPS.
  • Successful completion of the end point assessment for a CAP Apprenticeship
  • Current membership of the British Psychological Society and individual accreditation as a CAP once national accreditation schemes are available.

Desirable

  • Further training in a specific model of Psychological Intervention

  • Experience of working as a trainee, apprentice or qualified Clinical Associate Psychologist within the specific clinical area of practice (e.g. Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
  • Experience of working effectively under supervision from a registered Practitioner Psychologist
