We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Family Therapist, who will be an integral part of the Urgent Care Pathway; a newly designed pathway for children and young people who require intensive and acute support with emotional and mental health presentations.

Systemic practice and supervision are a key function of our across-county service, and you will have access to the training currently being progressed across the pathway, including Positive behaviour support, AMBIT, DBT skills, Motivational interviewing, crisis support, therapeutic assessment , solution focus brief therapy and many more!

Attached to this role will be the exciting EMDR pilot, the successful candidate will be trained to specialist children and young people level, and once trained, you will be participating in the research and evaluation with clinical lead colleagues of this exciting pilot.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary service, where there will be many opportunities to work with and learn from colleagues with different trainings and experiences. The Urgent Care pathway is made up oflocal and overarching leadership and management, Senior Mental Health practitioners, Assistant practitioners, Specialist Nursing, Consultant Psychiatry and Psychology .

The pathway currently has an established and successful Assertive Outreach, Crisis service, and LDAP Keyworker Pilot.

Our pathway teams are trained in Adaptive Mentalisation Based Integrative Therapy (AMBIT). This model will guide us in adopting a team around the key worker model of care, where CYP and their family/carers have a trusted and accessible worker who gains specialist advice and support from all the other professionals involved in their care.

You will have a varied caseload and may support teams across the county bringing systemic practice into the care delivery of CYP and their families/carers who require intensive support with their mental health needs.

You will be responsible for providing therapeutic intervention that is strengths-focused, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the needs of the child/young person and their family/carer.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working with children/ young people in the community with the confidence to intervene to meet a range of mental health needs.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

You will be an experienced and qualified CAMHS professional (RMN, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, psychotherapist) with professional knowledge acquired through qualifying/masters level training in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy. You will be able to work alongside colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team and develop relationships across agencies to meet the needs of children and families. The ability to adapt communication and intervention style to meet individual need is important and you will have knowledge of child development and child protection procedures.

The role of the Family and Systemic Psychotherapist is to provide specialist systemic assessment and therapeutic services to children/young people and their families/carers who have been referred with complex needs.

Within this role the post holder will:

Contribute to the multi-professional team to provide specific, evidence-based interventions to children/young people and their families/carers.

Have outstanding communication skills and the ability to engage with children/young people and their families/carers as well as a range of professionals.

Undertake specialist assessments, manage risks and hold a complex caseload

Using a strengths-based approach, ensure clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence-based interventions, goal-based, collaborative practice and Routine Outcome Measures.

Provide supervision and support to other clinicians with the ability to demonstrate compassionate leadership, to understand and follow HR policies and procedures, ensure staff wellbeing and development and adopt a collaborative approach to engage staff with a range of skills and communication needs.

Work effectively with operational, professional and clinical leadership colleagues to support clinicians in devising and implementing evidence-based care to suit the individual needs of parents/carers and infants.

Contribute to the provision of a range of early help/light touch interventions across pathways.

Attend, participate and chair relevant meetings with the ability to present information in a range of formats, adapting communication to meet the needs of others.

To promote and support participation of service users across the service.
