Job summary
This post represents an exciting opportunity for a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist who would like to develop expertise and experience in a clinical health psychology service setting.
This is a new post that involves working in the Liaison Psychiatry Service at North Devon District Hospital both on inpatient and outpatient basis. The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic and supportive Liaison Psychiatry Service within the Trust, directly linking into the Clinical Health and Neuro Psychology service.
The aim of the post is to provide a qualified clinical psychology service to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service. This is to support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the service, providing highly specialist psychological screening and assessment.
We would also encourage those who may be interested in combining this role with our other ICU Psychology post (see NHS Jobs ref :) to provide a full-time position relating to the same district hospital.
If you have any questions in relation to this post please contact Dr Adam Hickson, Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist, adam.hickson@nhs.net or Serena McKay, Team Manager, serena.mckay1@nhs.net or call 01271 443244.
Main duties of the job
You will provide brief psychological interventions, including guided self-help, within the available capacity of the service model, with scope for this area to be further developed. In addition you will facilitate therapeutic groups for patients and carers.
You will also work with the team on the development of an Integrated Psychological Medicine Approach within a stepped pathway model. Once this is embedded the post holder will be involved in assessments, formulations, follow-up and MDT meetings for patients with complex medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) and functional neurological disorder (FND).
You will have access to a wide range of professional support and further training initiatives linked to the job role. Our services are part of the wider Integrated Psychological Medicine Service (IPMS) within the Trust where we enjoy close links with the Devon IAPT LTC service. We have excellent links with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programmes at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, where opportunities exist for service related research and the provision of clinical placements.
The Liaison Team is friendly and dynamic and we are excited about the roles addition to our service and the way it will support our expansion.
