Job summary
We're
looking for an experienced, motivated, enthusiastic Head of Safeguarding with
an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding adults and children, who has advanced
analytical skills, and will provide professional leadership and promote good
safeguarding practice across Devon Partnership NHS Trust. The post holder will
have experienced working within a health or social organisation and will hold a
relevant professional registration.
The post-holder
will be a senior and integral part of our established safeguarding service
reporting into the Deputy Director for Safeguarding and Public Protection and
working closely with the Chief Nurse to deliver our statutory safeguarding
requirements.
The
safeguarding service is an exceptional service to work for. We are a team
providing specialist advice and operational support to staff across Devon
Partnership Trust. We represent the Trust and collaborate with all aspects of
adult/children board/partnerships and integrated care boards across Devon and
Torbay where we provide clinical services.
Main duties of the job
This post is supporting the Deputy Director; Safeguarding & Public Protection to lead the Safeguarding Service (adults and children) within Devon Partnership Trust.
The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of the corporate governance agenda; working closely with Directorate Management Teams, which are responsible for the planning, management, and delivery of operational services.
The post holder has management responsibility in the Safeguarding Service ensuring :
- clinicians access expert advice relating to safeguarding adults and children
- monitoring service quality and controls assurance,
- meeting financial targets
- compliance with all statutory regulations relevant to the Safeguarding Service
- overseeing corporate and service compliance with CQC and Ofsted standards relating to Safeguarding.
This will be achieved through the management of the Clinical Specialists; Safeguarding and holding to account and working in collaboration across directorates and with other service providers in the public, voluntary and private sectors.
The post holder will support the directorates in the following areas:
- to have comprehensive and robust arrangements in place for safeguarding
- to have oversight of appropriate monitoring of standards and practice in safeguarding
- to ensure effective engagement in and implementation of integrated working initiatives for safeguarding adults and children.

provide strong leadership for staff which promotes an environment of creativity,
innovation, and compassion.
You
must have excellent communication and presentation skills and be able to
produce comprehensive and good standard quality assurance reports.
You
will be required to attend and deputise for the Deputy Director; Safeguarding
& Public Protection at meetings across Devon Health and represent the trust
at multi-agency, integrated care board and safeguarding board/partnership
meetings.

health input into multi-agency safeguarding hubs, domestic abuse, modern
slavery, safeguarding adult reviews or children safeguarding practice reviews.
You will have a key role to play in ensuring learning and recommendations from
safeguarding adults reviews, child practice reviews and domestic homicide
reviews are implemented in a timely way within the Trust.
You
will provide expert safeguarding advise on safeguarding related matters, with
an excellent knowledge of national safeguarding related legislation, guidance,
and practice.
You
will be required to support staff with complex case management and escalation
working towards improved partnership working and quality assurance.

will be required to work collaboratively with colleagues from all clinical
directorates within Devon Partnership Trust as well as partner agencies to
facilitate the operationalisation of safeguarding strategies.
