Job summary
We are looking for a Band
6 Senior Mental Health Practitioners, you will be employed through our Children
and Families Devon Directorate, CAMHS service but based within, and a key
member of the Torbay Youth Justice team. You will also link with and have
support from the small team of wider Devon Youth Justice CAMHS practitioners.
You will use your skills and experience as
a mental health practitioner to deliver high quality care, develop and sustain
relationships across agencies and work as a core member of the Youth Justice multi-agency
and disciplinary team. Using both evidence-based practice and routine outcome
measures, you will use a strength-based approach to work collaboratively, in line with CYP-IAPT key principles.
You will be responsible for providing therapeutic intervention that is strengths-focused, evidence-based and tailored to meet the needs of the child/young person and their family/carer.
Main duties of the job
You will be an experienced and qualified CAMHS professional (RMN, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist) with experience working with children and young people with complex needs.
You will have a particular interest to support young
people require mental health support within the criminal justice system. You
will be able to work alongside colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team and
develop strong working relationships across agencies to meet the complex needs
of vulnerable children, young people and their carers/families. The ability to
adapt communication and intervention style to meet individual need is important
and you will have knowledge of child development and child protection
procedures.
Assessing and managing multiple risks and being able to assess mental
health presentations in the community is a core part of this role, responding
to both urgent and routine, planned and unplanned need. You will be required to
work flexibly across a range of clinical, community and home-based settings to
meet the needs of the child/young person. You will be patient and tolerant and
able to connect with children and young people who may demonstrate complex social
and emotional connections.

Essential
- An understanding of the Mental Health Act/ Mental Health Capacity Act requirements.
- An understanding of child development
- Understanding of child protection and the importance of multi-agency work for children and families in the community
- Understanding of CYP-IAPT principles including the use of evidence based therapies and Routine Outcome Measures
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with children/young people of all ages experiencing a wide range of mental health presentations.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals from various settings, sharing own professional knowledge, skills and expertise, whilst valuing the perspective of others.
- Able to produce well written reports.
