Job summary

We are looking for a Band 4 Horticulture Technician to join the Occupational Therapy/ Engagement and Involvement team based at Langdon Hospital, in Dawlish. The role is dynamic and challenging. In this role you will be contributing to patient recovery through using your Horticulture skills. This will be within a variety of settings such as our raised bed gardens within the medium secure unit wards. You will need to be person centred in your approach, creative in your problem solving skills, and an ability to adapt your horticulture tasks to meet your patients needs. Our Horticulture Technician post is a valued role within the Occupational Therapy Service and is part of the foundation of the service. You will be making a significant contribution to our patients recovery and wellbeing along with being instrumental in helping to assess and identify skills that will be transferable as and when they move on into the community.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience of working in a team, providing person centred care within a therapeutic environment using horticulture skills. The role involves communication, so we expect that you have excellent verbal and written skills. We expect you to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, with level one standard in Word and Excel.

Interacting with patients and their family you will be able to quickly build a rapport with a range of people from different backgrounds. Dealing with sensitive information daily, you will understand the importance of personal boundaries and patient confidentiality. Maintaining data security within Trust IT systems is an important element of the role.

You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required.

You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. You may be required to support the induction of new staff member, demonstrating activities to them and providing supervision to support more junior staff members.

We will help you to grow in the role, and will support you to achieve the Care Certificate if required.
