Job summary

To provide a comprehensive moving and handling advisory service (including training and risk assessment) to Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust. Assist the Trust l in meeting its statutory health and safety requirements in minimising the risk of moving and handling injury to staff and patients.Deliver comprehensive moving and handling training programmeDevelop, update and deliver comprehensive effective moving and handling training service to Trust employees, adapting the training to meet the needs of each client group where appropriate.Liaise with the Trust's departments to ensure all training complies with legislation and the requirements of Risk Management Standards

Main duties of the job

Duties and Responsibilitieso Provide a comprehensive moving and handling advisory service (including training and risk assessment) to HPFT Trust. Assisting the Trust in meeting its statutory health and safety requirements in minimising the risk of moving and handling injury to staff and patients.o Although not primarily a 'patient facing role', the post holder will have sufficient clinical knowledge and skills to support other clinical staff, to reduce the risk of manual handling injury to staff and patients.o To liaise with other clinical subject matter experts, to offer specialist moving and handling advice and information when necessary.o

Job responsibilities

To monitor and audit the provision and use of moving and handling equipment throughout the Trust, and to assist and advise the Health and safety & Security Lead, and budget holders regarding equipment purchase, quality, cost effectiveness, sustainability and care instructions. Assist the Health and Safety & Security Lead, in submitting capital bid applications in relation to purchasing Trust-wide moving and handling equipment as and when identified. Devise and deliver appropriate moving and handling training sessions as required. Assist the Health and safety & Security Lead in:o Responding to Datix Moving and Handling incidentso Incorporating examples into trainingo Investigate health and safety related incidents. Report and record all Reportable Injuries and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDORs) to the Health and Safety Executive as required.

Proactively raise awareness of Manual Handling issues and to provide practical and positive support to managers in fulfilling their responsibilities for health and safety by providing information and guidance for services. Provide advice on equipment use and procurement, working with external suppliers Participate in the development, monitoring, auditing and reviewing of manual handling related policies and procedures within the organisation, under the general guidance of the Health, Safety and Security Manager (e.g. Manual Handling, Display Screen Equipment etc.)

Attend Trust committees and external conferences to represent moving and handling interests. Produce reports following Manual Handling audits for managers and ensure actions are implemented and reviewed in relation to the appropriate geography.

To plan self-development and objectives for discussion during Performance and Development Review and undertaking appropriate development to ensure professional standards and capability are maintained. Collaborate across the wider Learning &organisational development team. Ensure that standards and appropriateness of dress are in accordance with Trust Policy.

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent
  • A recognized teaching qualification e.g. City & Guilds Certificate of Education or PTLLS
  • A patient handling trainer's course which meets the requirements of the National Back Exchange inter-professional framework and standards for training.
  • Relevant health & safety management course e.g. IOSH Managing Safely Computer literate e.g. MS word ,Excel Power point.

Desirable

  • Have, or be working towards an accredited post-registration course in patient handling

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience as a registered healthcare professional in a healthcare setting where patient moving and handling activities and equipment were required.
  • Experience in delivering patient handling training.

Desirable

  • Experience of planning and delivering patient and inanimate load handling training programmes that meet the requirement of health and safety
  • Knowledge of Incident reporting databases especially Datix
