Job summary

We are looking for a nurse to join our friendly Neuromodulation service in Transcranial Magnetic stimulation (TMS) at Kingfisher court in Radlett, which opened in November 2022.

The Neuromodulation Nurse will support and work in close collaboration with the Neuromodulation Lead Nurse in the management of the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Transcranial magnetic Stimulation (TMS) service and coordinating the delivery of the ECT and TMS service, working collaboratively with Consultant Psychiatrists, other grades of medical staff, Allied Health Professionals and Social Work Practitioners. ensuring it meets accepted quality and safety standards in accordance with national and local guidelines.

The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision making process, including joint working with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to meet the needs of the patients and carers to ensure that they are working to HPFT Clinical Policies and Procedures/Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice and Standards.

Main duties of the job

  • You will will receive training to acquire the skills and experience to be able to work flexibly across all areas within the Neuromodulation Service.
  • You will support the processing of all referrals into the Neuromodulation Service, ensuring that they are discussed as an MDT and the patient is taken onto the most appropriate treatment pathway.
  • You will participate in the management of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) to ensure the service is meeting accepted quality and safety standards in accordance with national and local guidelines, obtaining and maintaining ECTAS Accreditation standards, and providing a consistent approach across the Trust.
  • You will ensure safe clinical practice takes place and is always maintained to Care Quality Commission standards and in line with the NHS Constitution.
  • You will deliver effective and safe services which support the key elements of clinical/practice governance.
  • You will focus on supporting the team to introduce ways of continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence will flourish.

  • To have the clinical skills relative to the delivery of Neuromodulation services. This and means keeping clinically up to date; providing guidance and support to service user care in the psychological and physical preparation for treatment, based on evidence and locally agreed protocols and policies
  • To ensure all treatment suites are properly prepared, organised and maintained for practice in accordance with treatment protocols and accreditation standards.
  • To ensure regular maintenance of equipment and the facilities in the treatment suites, in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.
  • To contribute towards effective management and utilisation of resources with the treatment suites.
  • To participate in assessment, care planning and review of all services users referred for treatment as appropriate, with the relevant disciplines
  • To have a full knowledge of contraindications medication and adverse effects of the treatment and to communicate this effectively
  • To ensure that the administration and safe custody of drugs and medications are in accordance with Trust policy and procedure, and the NMC guidelines
  • To recognise and promote all aspects of equality and diversity whilst assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care
  • To carry out clinical nursing procedures/techniques for treatment, including pre-treatment clinical assessment and interventions, as well as during and post treatment.

Supervision, Professional Development, Training and Education:

  • To receive and deliver clinical supervision and participate in performance development plans.
  • To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nursing.
  • To identify personal development needs and set personal development objectives in discussion with the line manager.
  • To work towards achieving competencies outlined within role and the collection of evidence within personal portfolio.
  • To support the development of an environment that is conductive to learning, promoting staff development and involvement.
  • To teach registered and non-registered staff, including students, in all aspects of professional nursing as required.
  • To develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
