Job summary
You will be working as an Health Care Assistant within our Assessment and Treatment Inpatient Service for adults with Learning Disabilities based at Lexden Hospital, Colchester.
The Assessment and Treatment service (A&T) provides a specialist health service for up to six adults with a learning disability, who require an admission to a specialist learning disability unit. This is usually due to a decline in their mental health and/or behaviour that cannot be safely met within the community, and the level of support they require not being appropriate for mainstream mental health services.
The Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Health Care Assistant - working in a Health & Social Care setting.
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability &/or autism, who may have mental health needs and / or challenging behaviours.
- Demonstrate a positive value base to supporting people with autism and/or mental ill health
Main duties of the job
The Role:
- To have regard for the physical, psychological, emotional and environmental needs of the service users and their parents/guardians
- To plan and lead group and individual sessions in conjunction with the case holder
- To work independently in a variety of settings reporting observations or concerns in a service users' health / behaviour back to case holder
- To have a role in the assessment and further development of individual service users' skills. This may include support for service users to access appropriate service/facilities
- To keep accurate records of tasks undertaken, observation and events concerning service users and to report to other members of the team, as appropriate, and to prepare reports on individual service users, as requested
