Following additional investment into the service we are continuing to develop a 24/7 crisis support which includes, community and hospital based assessments, therapeutic intervention packages, telephone crisis line, parent/carer support, psycho-education and prevention. With this post supporting the clinical oversight of the C-CATT assessment and C-CATT intervention team.

We are seeking applications from those with a core profession such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Social Work who have undertaken further specialist training.

There is an expectation that the post will retain 80% clinical time and 20% of the time will be leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

With support from Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists you will provide one to one working and assessment, case discussion, oversight and support to CCATT clinicians who undertake urgent assessments, follow up appointments and brief therapeutic interventions of children/young people, and their families, in crisis.

The post holder will be a highly specialist and experienced clinician with knowledge in the field of child and adolescent mental health.

  • To actively participate in specialist clinics as deemed appropriate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To attend and lead the multidisciplinary planning meetings.
  • To develop, review and evaluate care management plans for children and young people including assessment in crisis, follow up appointments and intervention pathways, in consultation with other professionals.
  • To liaise with C-CATT staff in management of such cases.
  • Based on the assessments and reports generated to convey sensitive, complex and sometimes unwelcome information to clients and other professionals and to manage this as constructively as possible.
  • To be regularly on the relevant duty rota, to accept referrals, provide consultation and be available to carry out urgent assessments.
  • To ensure documentation and care management plans are of the highest standard in collaboration with the C-CATT intervention staff.
  • To provide consultation and where appropriate training to other professionals who come into contact with children and young people mental health problems.
  • To offer and provide a liaison and consultation service partner agencies working with children and young people open to the C-CATT team.
  • To collaborate with and provide specialist advice to partner agencies in identifying areas of need regarding health promotion and secondary preventative work.
  • To provide packages of care and psycho education for the young people and their families/ carers that takes account of the complexities of family systems and their significant social networks.
  • To ensure that the needs of the client group is paramount, and be aware of and work within local and national Safeguarding Childrens Guidelines.
  • To communicate effectively and skillfully with a wide range of people in a formal and informal manner and in verbal and written format consistent with their level of understanding, culture, and background to explore complex issues and make complex decisions.

  • RNMH/RNLD/RMN OR Post-graduate doctorate in clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • Detailed awareness of legal frameworks and mental health legislation, DoH guidance, NPSA, PEAT, CQC, NHSLA, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act including an understanding of standards.
  • Extensive post-registration experience of specialist assessments and treatment with clients witha range of psychological needs of a complex nature
