Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable radiographer with a strong passion for plain film imaging. This is a dual-focused role, combining service leadership with professional development. The successful candidate will take the lead in delivering and developing our plain film X-ray service, based at the Alexandra hospital in Redditch. Alongside this, the role offers an exciting opportunity to train as a reporting radiographer. This development pathway will enable the post holder to expand their expertise in plain film interpretation while supporting and enhancing the capabilities of the existing reporting team.
We have a team of 13 reporting Radiographers, led by a Consultant Radiographer. The team currently manage over 75 % of the plain film reporting which includes running a daily hot reporting service to the 2 Emergency Departments and 4 Minor Injury Units. Our Consultant Radiographer is an international lecturer in plain film reporting and regular visiting lecturer at several universities. Reporting radiographers in the trust are supported with on-going training and expanding scope of practice, as part of this we expect reporters to work towards qualification in reporting all body parts. We want to develop advanced practice within the department and would therefore expect the post holder to participate in teaching and audit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at Alexandra Hospital, however will be required to travel around the trust offering teaching and support when necessary.
Prior to commencing the reporting qualification, and throughout the training period, a flexible approach will be adopted to support study, mentoring, and shadowing opportunities with the existing reporting team.
On completion of their reporting qualification, the post holder, if working full time, will be allocated a minimum of five dedicated reporting sessions per week.
The service is progressing towards a seven-day reporting model, and opportunities for home reporting are available. A flexible approach is supported to enable reporting commitments to be met across the seven-day service.
The successful candidate will be required to support in both a clinical and managerial capacity and will be required to support our out of hours duties as part of the Radiology departments key service provision.
There is an expectation that the appointed candidate will support other services within Radiology (according to knowledge and skills) and as a senior staff member will be required to support the leadership team as and when required.
