Band 6 Project Support Midwife at Worcester Maternity Hub

Fixed Term for 12 months working 22.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Worcester Maternity Hub to become a key member of the Team supporting the Maternity Hub Manager, Matron and Directorate Manager in the ongoing development of the Maternity Hub at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be leading on ongoing development, improvement and operational enhancement of the Maternity Hub. The role will give the opportunity to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, patient centred care.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Midwife who wants to make a difference to ensure that we provide exceptional care within the Hub for birthing people.

Job Purpose:

As the Project Support Midwife (PSMW), you will be a key member of the team, supporting the Hub Manager, Matron and Directorate Manager in the ongoing development of the Maternity Hub at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

You will lead the ongoing development, improvement and operational enhancement of the Maternity Hub which encompasses the services of the Antenatal Clinic, Day Assessment Unit and the Cathedral Community Midwives Team.

The PSMW, will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the clinic delivers high-quality, patient-centred by managing projects related to clinical processes, digital systems, facility upgrades, staffing workflows, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Duties:

Education & Training:

To act as a preceptor and role model for junior staff

To participate in teaching for all learners in accordance with their objectives

To provide support to student midwives.

Maintain knowledge of current midwifery practice by reading relevant journals and attending study days where appropriate, promoting research-based practice in agreement with team leader.

To organise and provide training programmes in accordance with the identified needs for the service

To participate in further post-registration training, as evidenced by developments in practice

Disseminate specialist knowledge to the multidisciplinary team

Management:

To develop and expand the existing service

To inform and discuss with the Hub Manager any problems regarding management and/or care planning for clients accessing the service

To participate in audit programmes

To take all measures to ensure safety and report all accidents/incidents and to monitor the safe and effective use of all equipment and the economic use of resources

To assist in other wards/department of the maternity services if the clinical situation or staffing levels demand.

Be conversant with Trust and other Policies and Procedures and mechanisms in place for effective care and efficient management of the service

Alongside the Hub Manager, the PSW will lead the design, planning, and delivery of projects that support the growth and continuous improvement of the services provided by the Maternity Hub

Support the ongoing optimization of clinic workflows, patient pathways, triage systems, and appointment models.

Collaborate with clinicians, midwives, administrative teams, and the digital team to design efficient service models that improve patient experience and outcomes.

Evaluate opportunities for digital integration, including electronic medical records, telehealth, and patient engagement platforms.

Plan out department workload and oversee and support capacity and flow including staffing

Monitor service performance and service user outcomes, identifying areas for improvement using an evidence-based approach

Support the Directorate Manager in the compilation and presentation of any Business Cases

Professional:

To maintain a professional attitude at all times developing the role of the midwife in the best interest of the women and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council and Midwives Rules

Be responsible for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous midwifery records both written and electronic

To be aware of extended personal and professional development

To attend courses and conferences as relevant according to the requirements of the role of an experienced midwife

To maintain good standards of care and assist in the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care

Participate in research projects where appropriate, reporting findings within a multi-disciplinary framework

Implement research projects where appropriate

To be professionally accountable for ones own midwifery practice, acting in a professional manner at all times abiding by the Midwives Rules and Codes of Practice and all other relevant NMC and Trust practice protocols and guidelines

To be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of own professional knowledge and competence in keeping with the practice and CPD standard, laid down by the NMC to ensure continued professional registration

Personnel:

To participate in the selection and interviewing of junior staff within the ward/department.

Participate in the devising and implementation of induction programmes for newly appointed staff.

Provide training for less experienced staff

Adhere to Trust policies and guidelines
