An excellent, full time,
opportunity has become available for a BSCCP-trained Nurse Colposcopist with
Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust (WAHT).
The Nurse Colposcopist will
maintain advance specialist skills to undertake full diagnostic and therapeutic
Colposcopy, including examination and treatment.
The successful candidate will
participate in regular multi-disciplinary meetings (MDT) to discuss cases and
review protocols and will work closely with cytology and histology services and
admin teams. We have a friendly and
skilled nursing and medical team whom they will work alongside to provide
services.
You will need high standards of
care, attention to detail, self-motivation, kindness, empathy and excellent
communication skills to engage with patients and colleagues at all levels.

Main duties of the job
Act as an
autonomous practitioner using specialist skills to investigate, assess, plan,
implement and evaluate care of own case load of patients presenting to the Colposcopy
service line with agreed protocols, guidelines and patient group directives
(PGDs)
Provide
colposcopy and treatment of precancerous skin lesions of the cervix ensuring
assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of
nursing and clinical care
Manage a
caseload of patients requiring colposcopy under the indirect supervision of the
Lead Nurse Colposcopist
Provide
specialist support, advice and information to patients undergoing
investigations for suspected cancer
Provide
evidence based, high quality and safe standards of care
Ensure
standards are maintained within the clinical environment, supporting the
failsafe processes.
Support
the Lead Nurse Colposcopist with the development and review of evidenced based
local guidelines and policies, and the development of the Colposcopy service
Provide
specialist advice relating to Colposcopy to patients, their relatives, and
Oncology/Gynae multidisciplinary team members, medical staff, patient
representative groups, trainees and students.
Contribute
to clinic and non-clinical audit and patient satisfaction surveys for the Colposcopy
services
Participate
in any research projects relating to the Colposcopy services
Assist
in managing Colposcopy clinics to ensure patients are investigated in line with cancer waiting time targets

Carry
out diagnostic and therapeutic outpatient colposcopy procedures, including
LLETZ procedures, as an autonomous practitioner within own competence, skill
and qualifications, referring to senior medical colleagues when beyond own
scope of practice
Diagnose
and treat pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix by appropriate excision
Assess, plan,
implement and evaluate patient care with the Colposcopy multi-disciplinary team
(MDT)
Use
clinical judgement to assess patient suitability for administration of
medicines under Patient Group Directions (PGD) ensuring high quality, legally
compliant and patient-centred care, escalating to senior medical colleagues
when needs are outside the parameters of the PGD
Participate
in writing, reviewing and implementing PGDs within the Colposcopy service
Working as an autonomous
practitioner, plan and organise workload effectively and be accountable for the
quality and standard of work performed
Take
delegated and non-delegated consent for investigations, procedures and
treatments within own sphere of competence and adhering to local guidelines
Provide a high level of clinical
expertise and leadership in the unit and ensure the delivery of patient care in
accordance with national and local guidelines, policy and procedures, ensuring
best standards of practice

and waiting list forms/referrals are processed in keeping with local procedures

patient experience
To support and involve patients /

communicated to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team
Adopt a positive approach to
infection control, actively contributing to infection control policy and
practice.
Contribute to the formulation of
patient information leaflets and clinical/departmental guidelines

Be a contact/resource for GPs and

Take
charge of an identified area of work and manage the standards of care and daily
