Equipment Stores Senior Therapy Support Worker

Job summary

We are excited to announce we have an opportunity for a Band 3 Senior Therapy Support Worker to work within our onsite equipment stores, based at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and support our county wide equipment delivery and fitting service.

You will support the recently integrated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services by completing equipment fitting visits for patients in the acute ward setting and be responsible for the maintenance and replenishment of our equipment buffer stock at Alexandra Hospital.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual that will be able to demonstrate safe and effective patient centred approach to care. You need to be professional, self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for managing a referred caseload from the therapy service across both Worcester and Redditch sites and will be required to conduct visits to patients properties across the county to fit equipment to promote activities of daily living as delegated by the Therapy teams and to support patient discharge. You will receive regular supervision from highly skilled and knowledgeable therapists and will be provided with full training for the post.

The post offers many opportunities to grow and develop your skills, you will be an active member of our Patient Equipment Review Group and contribute to services developments as part of the group. We also have opportunities to support our Band 3s and Band 4s through degree apprenticeships to become qualified Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists!

This is a full-time post working core hours across Monday to Friday, part-time and flexible working can be considered. The post includes working Bank Holidays on a rota basis and there will be an expectation of 7 day working in the future.

Job Purpose:

To take responsibility for the management of the therapy equipment store, this includes ordering of stock, stock control, minimising losses and ensuring that the ward therapy staff have the equipment they require at the right time to support patient mobility, function and safe discharge from the acute hospital.

The post requires attention to detail to ensure that equipment provided to patients is correctly recorded and matched to the community database system.

Working hours will be dependent upon the service provided within each speciality, this may include 7 day working, working contracted hours within an extended daily pattern.

Key Clinical Duties

To manage the therapy equipment store at Alexandra Hospital Redditch

To check stock levels of equipment across the various therapy sub stores on a regular basis.

To order therapy equipment in order to maintain stocks using a computerised ordering system

(iproc)

When ordering stock to ensure that orders are placed with our most competitive suppliers in line with trust procurement policies.

To take delivery of therapy equipment from the community store and match orders with receipts

To monitor overdue orders and chase suppliers where appropriate

To distribute therapy equipment to the appropriate sub stores and wards across the hospital site.

To monitor levels of patient information leaflets in respect of therapy equipment and ensure adequate stocks at all times

To decontaminate and re-issue or return used therapy equipment to the community store

To operate a system of stock control to minimise losses and ensure that stock remains secure at all times

To input data into the community store computerised system so that items are designated to specific patients on discharge.

To action H&S equipment alerts, identifying if we have stock relating to recalls and managing actions or returns appropriately

To undertake any other duties necessary or directed, commensurate with the level of the post, to ensure the smooth running of the services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Functional Skills (level 2) or Maths & English GCSE (grades 9-4 or A*-C)
  • National Care Certificate
  • AND
  • 3 A-Levels or Health and Science T-Level or equivalent level 3 qualification(s)
  • OR
  • A level 3 apprenticeship (e.g. Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship (or other level 3 qualification pathway)
  • OR
  • Equivalent clinical experience/expertise within an AHP profession underpinned by theoretical and practical experience

Desirable

  • A relevant further education qualification eg BTEC (Therapy Support Worker) or NVQ 3 in Healthcare or equivalent
  • Evidence of attendance at healthcare related course e.g. Dementia awareness, stroke specialist seating.
