Job summary

We are looking for a Band 6 Neonatal Nurse Clinical Educator Lead who will be part of a small team developing and maintaining training to the neonatal team

They will be required to liaise with relevant staff within the neonatalDirectorate to deliver excellent patient care through having the right staff trained in the right skill at the right time.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team who to work collaboratively across boundaries, both internally and externally for the benefit of neonatal care and staff development, sharing areas of expertise and best practice.

Main duties of the job

Arrange and deliver education, training and devlopment of the clinical and non clinical workforce to provide , and be able to evidence, progressive develpment opportunities in relation to skill and opportuities across the team.

Job Purpose:

To support education and training to the Neonatal nursing team in order to deliver excellent patient care through having the right staff trained in the right skill at the right time.

In conjunction with the Childrens Directorate Clinical Education Lead, liaise with relevant staff within the Neonatal team to analyse the training needs

The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively across boundaries, both internally and externally for the benefit of neonatal, children and young peoples care and staff development, sharing areas of expertise and best practice.

Deputise for the Neonatal Clinical Educator Lead as required.

To role model and uphold high practice care standards through education and training

Key Duties:

Education and Development

Demonstrating advanced communication skills, the post holder will be expected to liaise effectively with all key members of the multi-disciplinary and professional teams.

The post holder will support multi-professional practice and learning across the organisation

Contribute to the development of a skilled professional workforce and facilitate a range of education, training and learning opportunities in the clinical environments.

The Clinical Educator will plan, organise and co-ordinate training for the Neonatal Team. They will ensure that both individual staff and service needs are met and comply with organisational training and development objectives.

Provide assessments of individual learning and development needs in conjunction with the National Skills Framework

Provide educational support to staff in practice where the need has been identified, assessing their competency by utilising action plans and a structured approach

Identify any skills gaps and provide training sessions to meet the needs of individual staff and give appropriate feedback on progress/difficulties of staff to the line managers

To lead and influence education, training and development of clinical and non-clinical workforce to provide progressive development opportunities in relation to competence and skills attainment in the neonatal team.

Assist in the review & updating of competency training packs & assessment packs ensuring completion of specific measurable objectives.

Be engaged with all of the multi-professional learners across education, including the development of education packages for new and emerging roles e.g. Nursing Associates, Physicians Associates

Support the Neonatal Clinical Education Lead in implementing quality measures across the educational pathway.

Assist in the delivery of a structured, competency based induction & training programme for new staff to the clinical area ensuring a system of preceptorship & mentorship is fully utilised.

Meet all new healthcare professionals allocated to the ward/department areas within the first few weeks & assess their training needs. Discuss required education & training with the individuals line manager Utilise effective methods of assessment, evaluation and impact of competence in clinical education.

To manage all study leave within the Study Leave Policy.

Maintain accurate and up to date records of learning events both formal and informal and provide relevant reports to the Directorate Management Team monthly.

Participate in audit and research relating to training and education

Core Skills Training

Support the delivering and monitoring of education / training requirements for all the nursing team within the Neonatal Team.

Support the delivery of specific topics (with support from the Neonatal lead) for all the nursing team staff within the Directorate.

Assess, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care including the assessment of knowledge and skills of staff working within Neonatal Services.

Support other Directorates Clinical Educators in relation to practices concerning neonatal patients.

Create a supportive learning environment and develop a culture of learning.

Support staff to become supervisors, mentors and buddies for appropriate learners within the Division

Training Needs Analysis

Work with the Directorate education leads, matron, senior sisters/ charge nurse in the development of a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for all nursing team staff.

Support the delivery or commissioning of the education requirements identified in the TNA

Support the Identification of the training requirements for the directorate in patient safety, human factors, clinical skills, simulation and resuscitation in liaison with the Clinical Skills, Simulation and Resuscitation Manager

Work with organisational leads on specialist topic areas which need a strategy around training and education of staff

Support workforce development and evaluation especially around educational development and support

It is anticipated that this role would be supported by further clinical hours to ensure the job holder maintains clinical skills and credibility within the neonatal team.
