Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the General Surgery Directorate for a Senior Medical Secretary to work as part of the General surgery team. We are a strong, proactive team who welcome innovation and adaptability within the service.
The position is full time and the successful applicant will be based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital however cross site cover may be necessary to Alexandra Hospital or Kidderminster Hospital . We also offer some flexibility with home working for a limited amount of days per week.
As well as being part of the busy department, you'll be required to prioritise your own workload on a day-to-day basis. Excellent IT and communication skills are essential for this role.
You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. We would require a strong communicator and dedicated team player.

Main duties of the job
To provide
medical secretarial service to a Consultant/s and other medical staff in
relation to their clinical duties.
To
manage the Consultants waiting list and the booking of theatre lists in line
with Trust policy and national 18 week RTT guidelines.
To
undertake medical audio typing duties including outpatient letters to
General Practitioners, operation notes, discharge summaries and
other official correspondence if required.
To
respond to enquiries from GPs, other Health Service personnel, patients and
relatives
To participate in the use of PAS systems to
establish patient information is kept as accurate as possible and produce
patient documentation as required.
To
undertake any other duties as may be required as appropriate by the Consultant
or the Directorate Management Team in accordance to the needs of the service.
To
work using own initiative with minimal supervision, prioritising own workload
in line with objectives of the
department and consultant teams.
To
deal with all incoming correspondence, phone and email in an efficient and
effective way.
To
liaise with patients, relatives and staff demonstrating sensitivity and
maintaining professionalism at all times.
To
assist in providing cover for other secretaries in the Medical Directorate to
ensure continuity of service to Consultant, medical staff, service users and
patients.
