Job summary

Applications are invited for a fixed term contract for Specialty Doctor to cover maternity leave until November 2026. We have 2 part time posts available.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of senior clinicians, the post holder will be required to support provision of patient care including following duties:-

  • Assist in the routine care of patients, undertaking examination, diagnosis and treatment planning, both on the ward and in the out-patient department.
  • Participate in ward rounds and then monitor the progress of in-patients
  • Undertake effective hand over of patients to colleagues
  • Maintain appropriate patient records both written and electronic ensuring all written records and legible and dated.
  • Assist or perform in patient operative procedures within scope of practice.
  • Perform minor oral surgical procedures in the out patient setting, including procedures under IV sedation.
  • Prescribe and administer treatment in line with departmental guidelines and competence.
  • Examination and diagnosis of patients in outpatient clinics including cancer and new patients.
  • Review patients on consultant clinics.

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide an appropriate clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.

The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. Essential

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiative

Desirable

  • Publications in relevant peer- reviewed journals in the last 5 years
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities.
  • Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.

Experience

Essential

  • At least four years full-time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in the relevant specialty training programme, or as a FTSTA. Or equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Fully trained in IV sedation.

Teaching Experience

  • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines..
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates

  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
