The Stroke, Neurological and Complex Care Rehabilitation and Oncology and Haematology Service are excited to share this opportunity join our skilled and dynamic integrated therapy team.
We are looking for someone with specialist experience working within Occupational or Physiotherapy Support Worker roles to work as a Band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner.
The role is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience working with people post stroke or neurological event or oncology and haematology diagnoses. It will provide the opportunity to rotate with 2 other band 4 Assistant Practitioner roles around three areas within our service, supporting the wider therapy team and contributing to high quality therapy service provision.
The team has a vast amount of skills and experience to support continued professional development. There will be opportunity for supervision, teaching and learning experiences to enable individuals to develop and fulfil their potential within role.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to work according to the band 4 role as defined by the AHP Support Worker Framework - providing leadership to the Support Worker workforce, working independently within their specialist area and contributing to the wider therapy service provision.
There will be opportunities to develop skills in Acute Stroke, management and rehabilitation of neurological or critical illness presentations within the Acute Hospital Setting, and care for people with oncology or haematology diagnoses.
Depending on the area of work the role will involve independent management of a ward based caseload and provision of therapy to support effective and efficient discharge. The role will also be based alongside a wider therapy team and require coordination and collaboration with qualified and support worker clinicians to ensure effective caseload management. There may be need to complete community visits to support discharge planning and equipment provision.

moderate physical effort, including repetitive techniques e.g. passive
exercises, bed exercises, and an occasional requirement for intensive physical
effort for several short periods throughout the day, including loading and
unloading of equipment from transportation. The ability
to safely use tools to adjust equipment is required. Close contact with
patients frequently exposes the post holder to bodily fluids/infections e.g.
sputum, urine, blood, vomit, and faeces. The above can
be occasional and carried out within the acute hospital or within a patients
home environment. The above requires the ability to ensure the safety of
both patients and staff. The post holder may be required to lone work within the acute hospital or in patients home environments, e.g. the
delivery and fitting of equipment (mobile phone are supplied when staff are

Working as part of the Therapy and wider
MDT, Therapy Assistant Practitioners (TAP) use enhanced skills in a specialist
area to provide direct high quality and effective therapeutic care and support
to a defined group of patients. Within the scope of the role, the post holder
will independently (unsupervised) plan and deliver individual or group tasks
where the understanding of role boundaries and the importance of supervision
and carrying out delegated tasks and plans is essential.This role requires understanding of
factual and theoretical knowledge of principles, policies, protocols,
procedures, processes within a defined group of patients. Although work is
guided by standard operating procedures and protocols, the post holder must be
able to make judgements to plan activities assess, treat and progress/grade and
adapt treatment of patients in line with competencies set and assessed by the
Registered Therapist. This knowledge should be utilised to contribute to
effective discharge planning as part of the MDT.The post holder will also co-ordinate
and assist with the training and management of other Therapy Support Workers,
thus providing a quality and effective support service to the Therapy Team.
They will contribute to service development and demonstrate personal
