Job summary
We are excited to announce we are advertising a permanent and secondment Band 6 position on AMU.
The Acute Medical Unit is a 27 bedded admission unit. We are a fast moving unit that has direct admission from A&E with discharges and transfers on a daily basis. We are looking for experienced nurse to join our dynamic and supportive team as a Junior Sister to help us to further develop our services and provide the highest standards of patient care.
As a Junior Sister you will be involved in effectively supporting and leading staff to ensure high quality care is delivered to all our patients, confirming adequate staffing levels are in place for the next 24 hours and escalate if necessary. You will undertake the Nurse in Charge role, coordinating, delegating and supervising the management and planning of nursing care whilst maintaining patient safety. The successful candidate will act as a role model of expert clinical practice and will be confident to challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to every patient. You will also be expected to supervise, support and share valuable knowledge with the newly qualified nurses.
You must be comfortable working in a busy environment juggling the different demands typical of a nursing role like this and must possess the courage to do what is right for our patients. You will be required to undertake audits within the department support the ward manager in meetings and complete professional development training.
Main duties of the job
To act as team leader for clinical staff and be responsible for clinical and non-clinical management of a ward area in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse.Responsibilities for establishing and maintaining communication and relationship both internally and externally.Establish and maintain effective communication and foster good working relationships with all multidisciplinary teams, both internal and external.Provide and receive complex and / or sensitive information from patients and staff. For example, breaking bad news to patients, giving complex information about procedures and their outcomes, dealing with performance issues, holding staff meetings. Able to support and talk to distressed patients, visitors, and staff members.Deal effectively with comments, complaints, or incidents that affect staff and users of the ward in accordance with complaints, risk management, or human resources procedures.Report all serious incidents to the appropriate Manager/Director within 24 hours; these include Never Events, serious falls, and grade 3 or 4 pressure ulcers. Be knowledgeable about the specific care requirements of patients who may be admitted to the area.Be knowledgeable about the risks of infection and take responsibility for minimising cross infection within the clinical environment, assist in giving information and placing patients appropriately.
