Maternity and Obstetrics Specialist Diabetes Dietitian

Job summary

NEW FUNDING for this B7 0.6WTE across 3 days:Mondays at the Alexandra Hospital Redditch, Tuesdays at Kidderminster Hospital and Fridays at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for setting and running the day-to-day clinical, professional, and operational management of the maternity and obstetrics diabetes service across Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Clinical responsibilities will include providing specialist dietetic care to women with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as those with rarer forms such as Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) or Type 3c diabetes during pregnancy, in line with Saving Babies Lives recommendations. The post holder will also provide dietetic support for women with gestational diabetes.

Service delivery will include dietetic cover for outpatient clinics, incorporating a mix of face-to-face group education sessions, individual consultations, clinic appointments, and telephone support.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work closely with dietetic professional & clinical lead to ensure safe and effective dietetic services within Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust
  2. To be the lead dietitian for staff working in maternity services
  3. To provide a specialist, effective, flexible clinical dietetic service to the maternity and antenatal diabetes service.
  4. To set up and oversee the day-to-day planning co-ordination, monitoring, evaluation and delivery of the dietetic service to maternity services.
  5. To be the professional lead for a specialist clinical area.
  6. To work jointly with the specialty team leaders across dietetics, professional lead and department manager.
  7. Working as an experienced autonomous practitioner, to provide a high standard of patient focused care through specialised assessment.
  8. To contribute to the therapy clinical governance agenda to further improve the quality of the service.
  9. To provide supervision, support and education to qualified staff.
