Job summary

An excellent opportunity in the Finance Directorate has arisen for a Deputy Business Advisor.

This vital role is responsible for providing a comprehensive and high quality financial and business support service to the Trusts Corporate, Estates & Facilities and Digital Divisions.

The post holder plays a crucial role providing expert financial advice and guidance to a range of senior managers within the Divisions whilst maintaining a thorough understanding of the financial position. You will work closely with the leadership teams across the divisions to ensure the consistent achievement of financial performance and outcome targets that supports the delivery of high quality patient care.

Holding relevant accountancy qualifications, you will be proficient in the use of a wide range of IT systems including a financial ledger. You will also be able to work with non-finance staff to present complex financial information in ways which will ensure engagement and understanding.

Main duties of the job

This is a challenging role and a great opportunity for someone to make a positive impact on the Trust and be a part of a high performing, dynamic and motivated finance team. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to:

-Support the Business Advisor in providing a robust financial planning and reporting service to the Divisions including month end closedown, financial forecasting and risk assessment.

-Staff management to ensure priorities are delivered to expected standards and timescales and that staff receive both regular appraisals and development opportunities.

-Analyse financial and non-financial data in order to identify risks and opportunities.

-Establish immediate credibility at all levels and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building positive working relationships with staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions.

-Work well under pressurein a busy operational environment, prioritising conflicting demands as required whilst maintaining a calm and professional attitude at all times.

-Deputise for the Business Advisor as required, including representation at a number of senior forums.

Key Duties:

Financial Planning and Reporting

Supports the Business Advisor (Corporate / E&F / Digital) in providing financial support to the Division and Service Lines.

Co-ordinates and manages the process of annual budget setting for Division working within an agreed corporate framework.

Support the Business Advisor (Corporate / E&F / Digital) in monitoring and reporting upon potential financial risks and risk minimisation strategies

Monitor and forecast expenditure trends/budgetary performance on a monthly basis, identifying variances & service issues for managers & advising them appropriately

Develops and maintains systems to monitor and update Division and Service Line financial plans and advise them on corrective actions where necessary.

Provide information on a monthly basis to contribute to corporate financial reports.

Supports the Business advisor (Corporate / E&F / Digital) and Divisional Directors and Managers in the identification of efficiency savings and provides a monthly schedule of progress against agreed targets

Provision of Financial Advice and Training

Provide formal and informal training, advice and guidance to a wide variety of staff on Standing Financial Instructions and finance and business management issues in order to improve financial awareness, performance, cost effectiveness, and efficiency, revenue generation and to maximise the use of assets.

Provide Business Management and Decision Support

Support the Business Advisor (Corporate / E&F / Digital) in undertaking robust financial evaluation of proposed service changes/developments.

Assists in the development and production of business cases and tender responses, generating options for investment, appraisal of the options and identification of project resources.

With the Business Advisor (Corporate / E&F / Digital) ensure all changes in services or developments are identified and that resource implications are quantified and accounted for.

Contribute to the development of service line reporting in the Division and wider Trust.

With Budget Holders, negotiate Service Level Agreements with a range of external organisations and ensure income is recovered.

Develop and maintain benchmarking and costing apportionments/information to support the business including the production of Reference Costs for the relevant service lines within the Division; this will include the ERIC and Corporate Services (Back Office) returns.

Introduce, adapt and improve financial and information systems within the Division and the wider Trust to assist budget managers in decision making and planning.

Be an active Member of Multidisciplinary Teams

Prepare and present accurate financial information to inform a variety of decision making forums, including formal reports and presentations to meetings linking and interpreting financial, activity, and performance management information.

Work to develop strong relationships with clinicians and managers to develop a culture of shared responsibility for financial issues.

Manage a Small Team of Staff

Leads, manages and motivates a small team on a day to day basis, communicates clearly and openly, creating a sense of trust and encouraging two way discussions/dialogue.

Monitors the work completed by Team members ensuring it is completed to time and quality requirements, and ensure members of the team are regularly appraised.

Complete appraisals of FMA staff and identify the training needs of the team members and ensure PDPs are in place.

Active Member of the Finance Directorate

Participate in finance staff training & development activities

Represent the Finance Directorate contributing to and participating in Trust wide projects and groups to provide a range of financial and business management support.

Identifies and takes responsibility for own development and helps to develop others.

Contributes to improvement activities across the directorate.
