Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the General Surgery Directorate for a Colorectal Cancer Coordinator to work as part of the General Surgery team. We are a strong, proactive team who welcome innovation and adaptability within the service.
The position is Part time (30 hours) and the successful applicant will be based at Worcester Royal Hospital. We also offer some flexibility with home working for a limited amount of days per week.
As well as being part of the busy department, you'll be required to prioritise your own workload on a day-to-day basis. Excellent IT and communication skills are essential for this role.
You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. We would require a strong communicator and dedicated team player.

Main duties of the job
Typing 2WW result letters / clinic letters, this includes posting them out in the correct time frame.
Dealing with incoming post, distributing to the relevant consultant of the week.
Ensuring patients progress through the cancer pathway within the national cancer targets.
Candidate will be responsible covering incoming telephone calls from patients and actioning generic 2ww admin email.
Daily chasing of any delays in investigations.
Update patient notes with relevant information relating to any patient delays.
Providing cover within the team for annual leave/sickness.
Liaising with CNS team/secretarial team / pathway navigators

The Cancer Pathway Coordinator will form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach in essential management of the pathway supporting Cancer Services and the ColorectalTeam.
The Cancer Pathway Coordinator will work in close unison with the Clinical Nurse Specialists to ensure the co-ordination and management of patients at all points of their 2WW referral pathway.
The post holder will work independently within the remit of the role but under the guidance and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialists to;
To work using own initiative with minimal supervision, prioritising own workload in line with objectives of the department and consultant teams.
To deal with all incoming correspondence, phone and email in an efficient and effective way.
To liaise with other members of the secretarial/administration team in order to provide a co-ordinated and efficient secretarial service
To support the Directorate Management Team with the administration, tracking and validation of patients' pathways to achieve the 2WW cancer targets.
To liaise with patients, relatives and staff demonstrating sensitivity and maintaining professionalism at all times.
To deal with any complaints, problems or issues in a sensitive way, escalating to clinicians/management as appropriate.
Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, complying with the Data Protection Act, Information Governance and other Trust/Departmental Policies.
To assist in providing cover for other secretaries in the Colorectal Team to ensure continuity of service to Consultant, medical staff, service users and patients.
To undertake any other duties as may be required/appropriate by the Directorate Management Team.
