Job summary
A highly desirable opportunity has arisen to be trained in Stereotactic biopsies with the Breast Imaging Team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Clinical duties will be carried out at both Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, within dedicated Breast Imaging Units. The successful applicant will be qualified Radiographer and Mammographer capable of independently assessing and managing a daily caseload of patients and ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of care.
Upon successful completion of academic and clinical training, and following a period of post-qualification preceptorship, the candidate will work independently, undertaking stereotactic biopsies. Once practicing autonomously and conforming to the scope of practice for the role, the candidate will be promoted to AFC Band 7 for 2 days a week.
Main duties of the job
TIn collaboration with a UK accredited post-graduate university course, the candidate will complete a PG(Cert) in Advanced Clinical Practice: Stereotactic biopsy course
Upon successful completion of both academic and clinical training, the post-holder will undertake a locally agreed, predetermined process of preceptorship into the role.
Undertake clinical training to perform stereotactic guided core biopies under expert local mentorship. Working alongside a named mentor, the clinical training will be delivered according to a predetermined negotiated learning agreement, which establishes strategies for learning, and provides clear and robust learning outcomes.
Clinical competency will be evidenced in a log of cases, and completion of both academic and clinical assessments
Perform symptomatic and screening stereotactic guided core biopsies, to the highest quality, with adherence to departmental protocols / procedures and scope of practice.
Accurately communicate findings to the wider multidisciplinary team
Ability to communicate complex, sensitive / distressing information to patients and their relatives
Undertake self-directed CPD activities and personal performance audits routinely, and present these at annual appraisals.

The post-holder must comply with local trust policies / procedures and maintain clinical competency through regular self-directed Continued Professional Development (CPD) activities, and participation in Quality Assurance initiatives to ensure compliance with NHSBSP standards.
The post holder will already possess expert clinical competency in mammography and be committed to undertake Post Graduate academic and clinical training, at MSc level, in Advanced Clinical Practice in Stereotactic guided core biopsies.

The post-holder must take responsibility in the day to day running of any of the breast imaging departments, as required by the clinical director and superintendent radiographer.
