Job summary
Applications are invited for a Permanent Clinical Fellow post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with a specialist interest in Oncology and Colposcopy.Under the guidance of the Consultants, the post holder will be responsible for the clinical care of Obstetric and Gynaecology patients.
This is an exciting time to join our unit. Previous reconfiguration of services has brought all acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology services to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH) Site in Worcester. The annual number of births is c.5000 and CQC have recently rated our Maternity services as Good.
In addition to BSUG accreditation the Unit is also accredited as a BSGE Endometriosis Centre and we have recently started to offer robotic surgery for complex endometriotic disease and high BMI cancer surgery.
Worcestershire is a largely rural county with excellent transport links to the Southwest, Midlands and South East. Worcester is a historical city with a world-famous cathedral. It is flanked by the River Severn and is home to Worcestershire County Cricket ground and Elgars Birthplace Museum. The Malvern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, are on the doorstep. There are excellent local schools, both private and state. While continuing to train medical students from the University of Birmingham, the Trust also has very close links with Worcester University, and we have recently starting supervising placements from the newly opened Three Counties Medical School.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should have good clinical skills in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology and should have the clinical experience to work at an ST6 level and above
There will be opportunity to assist at Out-patient clinics (Antenatal and general Gynaecology as well as Urogynaecology) and perform both elective and emergency surgery under direct and indirect supervision. Specialist interests can be developed in Ambulatory Gynaecology, Colposcopy, Maternal Medicine, Infertility, Endometriosis, Pelvic pain and Urogynaecology.
We have 2 teams on call - one for Obstetrics and a separate team for Gynaecology (consultant, registrar and junior tier) and the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the middle grade (MG) on call rota as part of the resident rota 1:8. We have a 2 tier MG rota with a first on more junior MG working alongside a second on more senior middle grade.
