Job summary
This is a 12 month
junior clinical fellow post based on the Acute Respiratory Unit at
Worcestershire Royal Hospital which offers the successful candidate the
opportunity to gain inpatient respiratory and general medical experience with
continuity of training. The post is suited to a candidate who has completed
foundation years 1 and 2 training and competencies (or equivalent) Candidates
who would prefer a 6 month post will also be considered
Main duties of the job
The successful
candidate will work Monday to Friday on the Acute Respiratory Unit working with
a team of junior doctors, nurse practitioners and a supervising specialist
registrar and consultant to investigate and manage respiratory inpatients. They
will gain experience of management of patients on non-invasive ventilation in
the 8 bedded high care unit as well as exposure to thoracic ultrasound and
pleural procedures. There are opportunities to attend respiratory and medical
specialty outpatient clinics and participation in audit and departmental
teaching is encouraged and supported

- Applications are invited for a Foundation year 3 post in respiratory medicine at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital on the Acute Respiratory Unit. - This is not a deanery post, however, educational supervision and content will be arranged by the Respiratory department to meet the training needs of the successful candidate.
- The successful candidates will be welcomed to join weekly departmental teaching sessions and Grand Rounds. In-house training will be provided for PACES/MRCP part II, and study leave will be available to help candidates prepare for the examinations.
- Key duties of the post are the medical care and management of inpatients on the Acute Respiratory unit working Monday Friday 8.30am to 5pm. The successful candidate will be encouraged to take regular agreed sessions for outpatient experience and audit/ quality improvement activities.
- Inpatient consultant and registrar ward rounds.
- Co-ordinating patient investigations, acting on and filing results.
- High quality discharge summaries for primary care.
- Assessing and managing new and deteriorating patients.
- Outpatients 1 clinic alternate weeks (arranged around ward cover rota).
- Observation and assisting the consultant or registrar with relevant procedures and investigations.
- Attendance to departmental teaching sessions.
- Participation in audit projects.
- Participation in Mortality & Morbidity case reviews.
