This is an exciting opportunity within the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Trauma and Orthopaedic department to recruit a Trauma Nurse Practitioner to work within the T&O service. This is a practitioner role and will facilitate the trauma pathway for all trauma patients from admission through to discharge. You will work closely with the orthopaedic medical teams to provide efficient and effective patient care for trauma patients. The post holder will work in a variety of settings such as the A&E, SAU, SDEC, and the trauma wards and trauma clinics. You will demonstrate strong clinical assessment skills, clinical leadership and clinical decision making skills. You will work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary teams, anaesthetics and theatres to improve patient flow and promote efficient trauma care. The Trauma practitioner service runs a seven-day rota works on a long day shift pattern which includes weekend working. The post holder will be a registered nurse or Allied health professional and is required to work autonomously at an advanced level. They will have a qualification in health assessment and require good clinical decision making skills and a commitment to on-going learning at masters level. A broad knowledge of trauma and orthopaedic or muscular skeletal and frailty conditions and a non medical prescribing qualification is essential.
Main duties of the job
Clinical examination/assessment and clerking of patients
Assessment of the deteriorating patient
Involvement in discharge planning and Electronic discharge summaries regarding treatment and management
Non medical prescriber
Lead post take ward round
Participation in pre and post-operative ward rounds
Undertake nurse-led ward rounds if applicable
Maintenance of records and databases
Referral for investigations and formulation of a treatment plan based on interpretation of results Interpretation of X-rays and other diagnostic investigations
Performing Fascia iliaca blocks to patient with confirmed hip fractures.
Perform interventional procedures such as joint aspirations/ suturing etc
Working with anaesthetic team to ensure alternative pain relief
Application of skin and skeletal traction
Application of surgical appliances such as collars, TLSO etc
Identification of medical risks and referral to specialty teams such as Anesthetics
Providing information and support to junior medical teams and ward staff
Contribute to the BPT for hip and femoral fractures and participate in the harm process for hip fractures
Supporting the frailty teams with assessment of patient
