Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accredited Clinical Vascular Scientist/Sonographer to join the small friendly team working in Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust providing a comprehensive range of non-invasive vascular examinations countywide.
The successful applicant will join an established team of specialised clinical vascular scientists, vascular scientist trainees and a lab co-ordinator. They will work closely with various clinical staff, including 8 consultant vascular surgeons, radiologists, nurses and a wide range of other clinical/non-clinical staff both within the Trust and externally. The vascular lab has various ultrasound machines which include, 2 Canon Aplio i800 and Sonosite Edge II based within the department, whilst utilising Philips EPIQ machines, Samsung and Siemens at tertiary units and facilities to measure ABPI and TBI.
You will be expected to perform a full range of vascular investigations including carotid artery duplex, upper and lower limb arterial duplex, abdominal aorta and iliac segments and all venous work, pre-operative vein marking, ABPI testing, toe pressure readings and bypass graft scanning including EVAR graft surveillance scans.
To be considered for appointment at band 7 the applicant will be expected to have a BSc in relevant science, full accreditation with the Society of Vascular Technology or working towards and/or HCPC registration with equivalent experience.
This post is for 37.5 hours per week (full-time).
Main duties of the job
- Perform and report on vascular ultrasound scans.
- Manage the daily patient workload.
- Participate in research, audits, and teaching activities.
- Supervise trainee vascular scientists.
- Assist with administrative duties and the operational management of the department.
The department offers a specialised diagnostic vascular ultrasound imaging service for the Worcestershire and Herefordshire. The primary modalities include extracranial carotid and vertebral artery assessments, peripheral upper and lower limb arterial and venous examinations, Aorto-iliac and mesenteric assessment, bypass graft and post-EVAR surveillance, stent surveillance, pre fistula and temporal artery assessments and exercise testing. Ideal candidates are statutory registered Clinical Scientists, SVT accredited Vascular Scientists (AVS), or individuals with a relevant postgraduate qualification in vascular ultrasound. You must be able to perform and independently report on the required examinations. STP trainees in their final year may also be considered.
Please note: This role is subject to the successful completion of your Scientist Training Programme of study and final examination. Any work commenced prior to this will be paid as Band 6, up until successful completion.
A face-to-face interview is required, as you may be asked to participate in a practical assessment.
