An exciting opportunity has
arisen for a band 6 junior sister/charge hand within the general surgery
division on Beech C. The busy surgical ward consisting of a 17 bedded area
looking after surgical patients. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated
registered nurse to join us, assisting the ward manager in the smooth running
of the unit with team management responsibilities and motivation to take the
unit forward and provide the team with supportive and confident leadership.
Sound decision making and acute clinical expertise is essential as well as the
ability to bring out the best in their team members.
Are you a dynamic band 5 ready to take on the challenge
of a band 6? We require an experienced surgical nurse to support other staff
members in developing their practice and delivering the 6 Cs to provide
outstanding care to our patients.
Experience within general surgery is essential as you
will be supporting junior staff and
managing complex patients needs.

training as relevant for your role.

Main duties of the job
- To ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
- To participate in preceptorship programmes as appropriate and act as a facilitator and role model to less experienced staff
- To provide supervision, support and education to junior staff, unqualified staff and students.
- Develop, lead and manage a patient centred nursing service delivered by professional staff ensuring the highest possible standards of care
- To deputise for the Departmental Manager in their absence.
- Support the Departmental Manger in the recruitment and selection process of nursing staff
- Support the Departmental Manager in the monitoring of sickness absence
- Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.
- To ensure that patient safety is maintained by the delegation of patient care to nurses with appropriate level of skill at all times and report any incidents to the Departmental Manager.
- Deputises for the Departmental Manager and liaises with members of the multi-disciplinary team both within the organisation and with external stakeholders, to ensure care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently
- Is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the Department in the absence of the Departmental Manager
