Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and
enthusiastic individual to join our Acute Oncology Team at Worcestershire Acute
Hospitals trust as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
We aim to provide an
individualised and supportive 7-day service for patients who are acutely ill,
following treatment for cancer specialised care for oncology and haematology
patients. We are a nurse led service and
we review patients countywide either as an in-patient or in our Acute Oncology
Assessment Bay based at Worcester.
We are looking for a
nurse who has experience working autonomously in triage of sick
oncology/haematology or acute care patient. The ability to communicate effectively with
all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential. You will be supported
in this post by the Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Service Lead, and the
Oncology/Haematology Matron.

Main duties of the job
Practice autonomously as an
advanced practitioner within the Acute Oncology Service to provide
patient-centred clinical care, encompassing the skills of advanced clinical
assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of
practice throughout the Department.
Demonstrate a high level of
expertise within the Acute Oncology Service, providing advice, education and
support to staff, patients, their families and carers.
Have responsibility for leading
the on-going development of clinical practice and standards of care within the
service, including the development of policies, procedures, protocols and
guidelines in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.
Support new ways of working that
emphasises a more efficient, effective and patient-focused service ensuring
safe referral and discharge of patients as appropriate.
Deputise for the Lead Nurse for
the Acute Oncology Service, this includes the nurse practitioners, Acute Oncology
Helpline and In-reach Services across the two Acute sites (Worcestershire Royal
Hospital and The Alexandra Hospital, Redditch)

individualised direct patient care.
Lead in the development and
expansion of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Service within the specialist
area with management responsibility for additional team members.
A knowledgeable Team Leader,
supporting staff, service and policy development within a defined
area/specialty.
Provide and maintain expert
knowledge and practice in venepuncture, cannulation, central venous devices,
chemotherapy drugs and biological therapies.
Responsible for identifying and
assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions
and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
Undertake highly specialised
technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including
complex patient monitoring; chemotherapy reviews and assessments; equipment
management and defined expanded clinical roles.
Accountable for own actions in
accordance with Code of Professional Conduct.
