**THIS VACANCY IS ONLY OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS FROM WORCESTERSHIRE ACUTE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST**

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity open to Radiology Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and Clerical staff. We are looking to support a successful candidate onto the Exeter University Apprenticeship Radiographer Degree Program due to commence in March 2026. This exciting training opportunity offers individuals to become a full HCPC radiographer (subject to course completion and HCPC registration).

The apprenticeship degree program is a new venture supported and sponsored by Health Education England, to provide the opportunity to locally train enthusiastic prospective students to become radiographers.

Successful candidates (subject to qualifications) will be enrolled on to the degree apprenticeship to commence in March 2026. Successful candidates will be expected to complete; work-based, online, self-directed learning as outlined in the university prospectus. Occasional attendance at Exeter University will be required. Apprenticeship radiographers will be supported in department by our radiography team.

Candidates applying must have the required qualifications as documented in the personal specification and Exeter University internet pages. Furthermore, an expectation from the prospective degree apprentice of enthusiasm, commitment and pro-activeness is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to commit themselves to train as a radiographer meeting the clinical and academic requirements of the course.

To ensure that patients are professionally cared for during the examination and their time in the department.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To ensure standards strived for meet those set by the Directorate regarding quality and protocols.

To maintain knowledge of technical and clinical developments.

To work under the supervision of a qualified radiographer within area of work ensuring high standards of patient examinations are achieved.

To ensure that an efficient throughput of patient examinations is achieved.

To ensure that patients are cared for in the department especially in their own area of work. To communicate to patients and others any delays likely to affect them

Checking patients details prior to examination as per SOR pause and check standards and ensuring that such details are present and correct on the request form/computer. Requests must be justified as per departmental protocol and as per statutory regulations; Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R).

Ensuring that, on completion of examination, the patient is informed how they will get their results and that they may leave and arrangements are made for transport if necessary. Ensure images are archived appropriately for reporting.

Ensuring that radiation safety measures are being observed within the limits of the procedure being carried out and that his/her own standard of Radiation Protection is in accordance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations, IR(ME)R17 and any other relevant legislation.

Ensuring that all images are properly identified with patients name, side examined, date of examination. To enter information of the examination into the Radiology Computer System.

To assist radiographers, assistants and other appropriate personnel to perform their duties as and when required and support with any problems that may arise.

To maintain and ensure others maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment and to ensure the safety of patients and others, taking appropriate action as required.

Have a flexible attitude towards the hours of work and participate in work and duties as required relevant to the directorate.

To ensure that they work to radiology policy and procedures within the Directorate of Radiology and the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
