A highly desirable opportunity has arisen to be trained in Breast ultrasound with the Breast Imaging Team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Clinical duties will be carried out at both Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, within dedicated Breast Imaging Units. The successful applicant will be qualified Radiographer and Mammographer capable of independently assessing and managing a daily caseload of patients and ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of care.
Upon successful completion of academic and
clinical training, and following a period of post-qualification preceptorship,
the candidate will work independently, undertaking both symptomatic and NHSBSP mammographic
reporting, symptomatic breast and axillary ultrasound, and ultrasound guided
interventions. Once practicing autonomously and conforming to the scope of
practice for the role, the candidate will be promoted to AFC Band 8a.

Main duties of the job
In collaboration with a UK accredited post-graduate university course, the candidate will complete a PG(Cert) in Advanced Clinical Practice: Breast Ultrasound
Upon successful completion of both academic and clinical training, the post-holder will undertake a locally agreed, predetermined process of preceptorship into the role.
To
work as an expert practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competencies in
mammographic image interpretation for both the NHS Breast Screening Programme
and WAHT symptomatic service.
Undertake
clinical training to perform breast and axillary ultrasound under expert local
mentorship. Working alongside a named mentor, the clinical training will be
delivered according to a predetermined negotiated learning agreement, which
establishes strategies for learning, and provides clear and robust learning
outcomes.
Clinical
competency will be evidenced in a log of cases, and completion of both academic
and clinical assessments
Perform
symptomatic breast and axillary ultrasound examinations independently, to the
highest quality, with adherence to departmental protocols / procedures and
scope of practice.
Accurately
communicate ultrasound findings to the wider multidisciplinary team
Ability
to communicate complex, sensitive / distressing information to patients and their relatives
Undertake
self-directed CPD activities and personal performance audits routinely, and
present these at annual appraisals.
