Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a post-holder to join our Urgent Care team as a National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) Coordinator.The post holder will be responsible for the provision of data to both NMTR and the trusts Internal Trauma Registry. This will involve tracking all trauma calls through their inpatient stay, and the identification, using the NMTR inclusion criteria, of patients admitted to the Trust with trauma. Subsequently the post holder will be responsible for collating information from the entire inpatient stay, confirming the accuracy of the data with a nominated consultant, and submitting data via the NMTR system. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for disseminating information on the standards of trauma care within the Trust and participating in cross site audit meetings. The post holder will be expected to enhance performance on the light of the NMTR audit data and returns. The post holder will be required to collect and collate information on trauma patients.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to provide senior administrative support to Data within the Trauma Service with the following key objective:

Manage the process and directly submit timely, accurate and reliable data to both NMTR and Internal Trauma Registry, working on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

To provide reporting and analysis of data as required.

The National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR), formerly known as TARN, has been working with the NHS Trusts in England and Wales for over 20 years to improve emergency health care systems by collating and analysing trauma patient care data within each Trust. The NMTR system has multiple important purposes within Major Trauma Networks:

Generation of the nationally mandated Trauma Dashboard.

Injury Severity Scoring and Best Practice Tariff reporting for NHS England.

A statistical base to support clinical audit.

A source of information to support trauma service improvement.

Quarterly comparative reports for participating hospitals.

  • To provide accurate collection of data for all major trauma patients, in preparation for submission of data to NMTR

  • To ensure that all NMTR eligible patient details are submitted within 40 days of discharge

  • To interpret and consolidate information from multiple sources to ensure a complete and accurate patient record on NMTR

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of Trauma data onto the NMTR database. Identifying issues and ensuring that they are resolved by liaising with clinical and management teams, both within the Emergency Department and across the wider Trust.

  • Compilation and dissemination of information to support clinical teams in managing performance and adapting clinical practices.

  • Provide data to other information users at all levels throughout the Trust and to appropriate external users as instructed.

  • Carry out ad-hoc analysis of data as requested by staff throughout the Trust ensuring understanding of data provided and advising of its appropriate use as needed.

  • To ensure that the Data Protection Act recommendations relating to the provision of information are followed at all times.

Data Collection and Processing

  • Assist the Trust in its auditing information systems for the accurate recording of all patient activity.

  • Update the Trust Information system to correct known data errors or complete missing information on patient records to include demographics and activity data.

  • Obtain information from external and internal sources to improve the completeness of the Trusts data.

  • Validate and assess the standard of data making corrections, advising of findings and carrying out further investigations of issues, working with appropriate Trust Managers.

Other Information Duties

  • Provide assistance to other staff within the department as required.

  • Ensure all processes have written current procedures and that they are followed and maintained at all times.
