Job summary
Housekeeper/Porter (Band 2) Worcestershire Acute NHS Hospital Trust Kidderminster Treatment Centre.
There are a wide range of day surgical patients visiting our busy operating department at Kidderminster Treatment Centre.
You will need to be flexible, and adaptable and have a real team ethic as you will be supporting the theatre team to maintain high standards of cleanliness for our patients and visitors. You will carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the department using appropriate materials and equipment.You will also be involved in portering duties including assisting staff in the transfer of patients, the movement, and storage of equipment, and ensuring the safe movement of specimens to other departments.
The post is full time 37.5hours (4 days) per week. Shifts start at 8am and finish at 18.00hrs on three days with one day 17.30 finish.
You will attend the Trust Clinical Induction Programme and a local induction in your work area. Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at enhanced level.
Main duties of the job
Clean allocated work area to the agreed standards and frequencies as detailed in work schedules. Carry out specialised cleaning tasks; including isolation rooms, theatres etc. to agreed standards and wearing correct PPE as required.
To assist with moving HSDU trolleys both to and from Theatres, storing them as policy
The recording of information so that accurate records of processes are maintained.
Have the ability to follow instructions and to suggest changes in working practices
Undertake the safe removal of body fluid spillages in public and communal areas in line with policy/guidelines
To act as a mentor for newly appointed staff, providing on job training and instructions
To clean using the correct method, equipment and materials.
Remove waste from work area and place at collection points in line with departmental procedure
To assist with the safe movement of specimens and specimen bags for collection and redistribution
Comply with the Trust Infection Control policies and procedures.
Use mechanical equipment as required.
Report defective equipment to the team leader/department lead and estates.
Clean equipment after use
Use all cleaning chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner.
Working at heights as required
Assist with the collection and storage of gas cylinders
To assist with appropriate audits and water flushing according to policy
Participation in annual personal development review and unit meetings

Job Purpose:
To assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for patients, staff and visitors. To carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the department and to apply specialist-cleaning methods using appropriate materials and equipment where necessary.
