If you are an experienced Band 5 seeking new learning opportunities, or newly qualified Speech & Language Therapist, keen on working in an acute setting then we want to hear from you!

Following service re-structure, we have an exciting opportunity to join our acute inpatient Speech and Language Therapy team in a fast paced, but friendly environment. There are two full time, permanent band 5 positions working a 50/50 split as part of the general medicine and stroke teams across acute inpatient sites. Your timetable will provide a great breadth of learning opportunities, exposure to different caseloads and MDT working. There will be opportunity for peer support and shared learning. Newly Qualified SLTs will receive regular support to complete their RCSLT Competencies and dysphagia training is provided. We have access to video-fluoroscopy and FEES service, with regular supervision and CPD opportunities across the wider team.

The post involves working Monday to Friday, with potential for additional working requirements on bank holidays & Sunday Stroke rotation depending on level of experience.

Inpatient work occurs at both the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Worcester Royal Hospital so car driver is essential.

To provide a high quality service in an acute setting across hospital sites which will include assessment, diagnosis and formulating management plans of speech, language and communication and swallowing disorders.

To work as an effective and flexible member of the team focused on improving the care of our patients and contributing to best practice models of care.

To work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team and champion training and awareness of the role of the SLT in swallowing and communication

To plan for and support the work of support workers and/or assistant practitioners.

To participate in student placements once established within the department and full preceptorship requirements have been met.

To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment

To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties
