Job description

Job responsibilities

To support education and training to the Childrens Directorate nursing team in order to deliver excellent patient care through having the right staff trained in the right skill at the right time.

In conjunction with the Childrens Directorate Clinical Education Lead, liaise with relevant staff within the Childrens Directorate to analyse the training needs

The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively across boundaries, both internally and externally for the benefit of neonatal, children and young peoples care and staff development, sharing areas of expertise and best practice.

Deputise for the Paediatric Clinical Educator Lead as required.

To role model and uphold high practice care standards through education and training

Core Skills Training

Support the delivering and monitoring of education / training requirements for all the nursing team within the Childrens Directorate

Support the delivery of specific topics (with support from the organisational lead) for all the nursing team staff within the Directorate.

Assess, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care including the assessment of knowledge and skills of staff working in the Directorate.

Support other Directorates Clinical Educators in relation to practices concerning children and young people

Create a supportive learning environment and develop a culture of learning.

Support staff to become supervisors, mentors and buddies for appropriate learners within the Division

Training Needs Analysis

Work with the Directorate education lead, matron, senior sisters/ charge nurse in the development of a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for all nursing team staff.

Support the delivery or commissioning of the education requirements identified in the TNA

Support the Identification of the training requirements for the directorate in patient safety, human factors, clinical skills, simulation and resuscitation in liaison with the Clinical Skills, Simulation and Resuscitation Manager

Work with organisational leads on specialist topic areas which need a strategy around training and education of staff

Support workforce development and evaluation especially around educational development and support

  • Evidence of CPD Evidence of participation in training and learning development.
  • Mentor experience and qualification
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • An understanding of current strategic issues in nursing healthcare and higher education

Desirable

  • An ability to articulate a broad knowledge and understanding of the NHS agenda.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Ability to deliver teaching and presentations locally and nationally
