LEAD PHARMACIST WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Band 8B Up to 35.5 hrs p/w Flexible working options considered

Hospital base: Worcestershire Royal Hospital, but working across all hospital sites

Key responsibilities for the post:

leading the workforce development, training and education of the pharmacy team including clinical, technical and support staff. Our intention is to ensure every staff member has the opportunity to develop and reach their full potential including working across the interface at both pre and post registration level.

You will have significant experience in acute hospital or higher education setting, demonstrating clinical and management effectiveness to develop and proactively lead the team.

You will hold a post-graduate (PG) qualification in clinical pharmacy and PG qualifications or equivalent experience relating to education and development and have previous experience as a Foundation Year Trainee pharmacist tutor and a good understanding of statutory and performance requirements required for the training and development of the workforce.

Main duties of the job

As the Workforce Development, Education and Training Lead Pharmacist, you will: -

Act as the Pharmacy departments strategic lead for workforce development

Collaborate with workforce colleagues across Worcestershire and the ICS Pharmacy Faculty in support of developing innovative roles

Lead on and work collaboratively with undergraduate and postgraduate schools of pharmacy and increase our involvement and contribution to research.

Act as Foundation Year trainee manager, liaising with Foundation Year trainee tutors to deliver the expected curriculum and experience in accordance with expected standards.

Co-ordinate and develop our clinical pharmacy workforce as Designated Prescribing Practitioners.

To liaise and support the Practice Supervisors for preregistration pharmacy technicians, apprentices and assistant technical officers in the development and training of these groups of staff.

Act as lead for the provision of work experience or work placements.

Support leads to deliver formal and in-house training programmes to enable our pharmacy workforce to meet their professional requirements and developmental needs

Be strategic lead on the induction of new pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

Be a member of the Senior Pharmacy Management Team, to respond and contribute to other relevant policies and service development.

Participate in the regular provision of clinical pharmacy services to maintain skills and competencies to include prescribing.

The responsibilities of this role will include: -

Being responsible for workforce development including leading the pharmacy education and training team and developing a workforce development strategy.

Acting as a role model for education and training and use their specialist knowledge to develop our team of staff.

Ensuring that educating, training, and workforce development are developed in a manner which reflects Trust objectives, national policy and initiatives, and Integrated Care System medicines optimisation objectives and in liaison with the NHS Workforce Transformation and Education team.

Acting as chair of the Pharmacy Faculty and supporting the Herefordshire & Worcestershire ICS Pharmacy Faculty as a representative for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals

Monitoring the allocation of resources in order to meet the training needs of all grades of staff in the department, including staff applications for study leave both internally and externally.

Acting as supervisor of the Pharmacy Education and Training Team and Foundation Trainee Pharmacists and Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians as appropriate.

Assisting with the recruitment and selection of staff as appropriate

Managing the allocation and arrangement of honorary contracts for all undergraduate students, vocational students, trainee pharmacists and overseas students as required locally.

Working closely with the Lead Pharmacists, Senior Pharmacists and Lead Pharmacy Technicians to manage the training and development of the pharmacy workforce.

Supporting Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to undertake and complete GPhC Revalidation and Continuing Professional Development including reflective practice.

Acting as a role model for R&D; encourage, promote, and publish scientific and practice-based research and publication of research.

Identifying, supervising and managing the allocation of audit and quality improvement projects for Trainee Pharmacists on an annual basis.

Developing strong academic and integrated working relationships with Health Education Institutions and developing a research culture within the Trust. This includes managing the involvement and provision of final year student project work.

Supporting departmental leads in the delivery of both formal and in-house training programmes to enable pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants to meet their professional requirements and developmental needs through formal and informal training provision.

Reviewing and implementing development pathways, competence assessment and progression for all members of the pharmacy team including the development of innovative and advanced roles.

Supporting the Trust culture of collaborative, flexible cross-team working and commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes, which support the Governments policies on public health, corporate governance, equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Being a member of the Senior Pharmacy Management Team, to respond and contribute to other relevant policies and service development.

Participating in dispensary/ward cover for ~20% of working time; and the weekend and Bank Holiday working rotas to maintain basic pharmacy services and personal competency. Although not formally part of the Pharmacy on call team this post holder may be asked to contribute.
