It Is an exciting time to join the Childrens nursing team at WAHT. A new dedicated 14 bed PAU is due to open in Winter 2024 and will be operational 24/7.

The Band 7 PAU Manager will lead and co-ordinate a dedicated team of nursing and support staff in the delivery of a high standard of child and young person focused, family centred nursing care. The PAU manager will help in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems relating to Risk Management, Health and Safety and key performance indicators.

The post holder will provide 24-hour accountability for the overall management of the PAU and the delivery of nursing care. You will be responsible for the management, deployment and supervision of registered and non-registered nursing staff. You must have the ability to problem-solve, prioritise, and work to deadlines

You will need to have proven leadership and management skills and be able to demonstrate high clinical expertise. You must be a positive role model by having the ability to motivate staff, ensure collaborative working with all disciplines and enhance team performance.

An experienced senior childrens nurse team will support you. We encourage innovative ideas and ways of working within a supportive environment and will enhance and develop your skills and knowledge in a wide range of areas.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the maintenance of high-quality patient focussed, family centred care always through effective leadership, and management of staff and resources and to be available for advice and support within the speciality.

To demonstrate strong clinical leadership in stressful and challenging situations.

To promote a positive approach to new challenges and creative ways of working.

To act as advocate for their designated area and liase with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate all aspects of patient care in the best interests of the patient and family.

To ensure effective training and educational programmes are available by liasing with appropriate personnel to meet the training and educational needs of nurses in the clinical area. This post carries 24 hour continuing responsibility for the co-ordination and monitoring of all clinical activities within their designated clinical area, including the deployment and supervision of staff.

The post holder will work in close liaison with other childrens areas department managers and deputise for the Matron to manage the day to day operational activities and escalate as necessary.

Accept personal responsibility and accountability for your infection prevention and control practice. Ensure that you are familiar with, and comply with, all relevant policies. Ensure that you receive mandatory updates in infection control.

Maintain accurate records relating to all aspects of Department management.

Participate in a rota of cover in the absence of Matron
